Tough Test for K-State in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After posting its best team finish on the year, the Kansas State men’s golf team will continue fall play in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Friday through Sunday, at the par-72 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club Golf Course in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

The three-day tournament, hosted by East Tennessee State, will open play on Friday with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Each team will start on the No. 1 on Friday and Saturday, with group play on No. 1 and 10 on Sunday.

“We are looking forward to competing this weekend in Tennessee,” said head coach Grant Robbins, whose Wildcats finished second in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate earlier this month. “This will be the strongest field we have seen so far this year, and I know the guys are excited for the opportunity.”

K-State’s scoring lineup will consist of sophomore Jeremy Gandon, senior Matt Green, freshman Jacob Eklund, sophomore Roland Massimino and freshman Ben Fernandez.

Gandon enter the event with a team-leading 71.66 stroke average, which includes a 6-under par 210 in the season-opening Badger Invitational.

After finishing in a tie for second in the last tournament, Green will look to continue to solidify himself as one of the top players on the team. The Lenexa, Kansas, native finished at 5-under par 211 and was one stroke behind the tournament champion.

Massimino, who will be a member of the scoring lineup for the first time this weekend, was able to climb the leaderboard playing solely as an individual in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate to tie for fifth. This weekend, the Lumberville, Pennsylvania, product will be hoping to add another solid outing to his resume and contribute to the team total.

The field features is the toughest the Wildcats have faced by far and includes seven former tournament champions. In addition to K-State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Kent State, ETSU, Louisville, Missouri, Penn State, Tennessee, VCU, Villanova, Virginia, Virginia Tech and UNCW will all be competing this weekend.
