Two Wildcats Conclude Day One of ORU Shootout

TULSA, Okla. – Kansas State men’s golfers Jack Rickabaugh and Roland Massimino are still seeking their first even-par or better rounds of the spring after 36 holes at the Oral Roberts Shootout on Monday. Rickabaugh, who carded a 2-over par in the first round, and Massimino have traveled to the Forest Ridge Golf Club for their fourth competition of the year as they competed as individuals in the field for the Wildcats.

“Jack played well in the morning; his score isn't a true indication of how well he struck the ball,” said K-State assistant coach Cullen Carstens. “The afternoon was a grind for both guys, but Roland played very steady other than two bad holes. Overall, we still need to do a better job of taking care of the little things and limiting unnecessary mistakes.

Rickabaugh, a junior, has not played in competition since the Tiger Invitational, March 6-8, but appeared he would have a chance to play even-par golf on Monday. He birdied his first hole of the day, and after a string of bogeys in the first round, he eventually fought back to even-par. However, Rickabaugh would bogey two of his last three holes of the first round to finish at 2-over par 74.

Rickabaugh’s second round began much like the first, but five bogeys within seven holes on the back nine dropped the Garnett, Kansas, native to 10-over par 154 for the tournament. He will enter Tuesday’s final round in a tie for 36th place, 13 shots behind the leader.

The Wildcats’ other individual competitor, Massimino, struggled in his return to competition since the South Alabama Individual Tournament on Feb. 22-23. Massimino’s bogey-laden first round ended at 9-over par 81. The freshman was able to snag two birdies in his second round that also featured 12 pars, but a triple bogey on the par-3 13th dropped him to 5-over par for the round and 14-over 158 for the tournament. Massimino sits in a tie for 54th place heading into the final round.

Both players are set to tee off their final rounds Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Live results can be followed on www.birdiefire.com, while results will be posted at www.k-statesports.com at the conclusion of the round.
