Two Wildcats Finish in Top-20 at Bill Ross Intercollegiate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Kansas State freshman men’s golfer Andrew Beckler recorded another round of 2-under par 70 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fourth place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,054-yard Milburn Golf & Country Club.

Beckler, who was playing in his debut outing as a Wildcat, finished the event with a three-round total of even-par 216. He was one of three individuals representing Kansas State at the tournament as he was joined by Roland Massimino and Hank Simpson, who tied for 13th and 47th, respectively.

“It was a solid day all around for our guys, as each player saved their best round for today,” said assistant coach Cullen Carstens. “I was really proud of Andrew getting fourth in his first ever event for us, he was great these last two rounds. It is a tribute to the hard work he has put in, as well as the potential he has going forward.”

Thanks to his second-consecutive round of 2-under par 70, Beckler improved one spot in the final round. The freshman carded five birdies, including four on the front nine.

Massimino carded a tournament total of 6-over par 222 to record his highest individual ranking as a Wildcat. The Pennsylvania native opened his final round with a birdie and added one more later in the day to finish at even-par 72, moving up 11 spots on the leaderboard.

Simpson carded a 1-over par 73 on Tuesday – his lowest round of the tournament – to finish at 15-over par 231.

Wichita State’s Grant Bennett went wire-to-wire to claim the individual title at 10-under par 206. The Shockers won the team competition at 14-over par 878, one stroke ahead of second-place Air Force.

The Wildcats will finish their fall slate at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, Oct. 25-26, at the Grandover Resort East Course in Greensboro, North Carolina.
