MANHATTAN, Kan. – Led by Wildcat Classic MVP Katie Brand, the Kansas State volleyball team completed an undefeated weekend with a sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-14) of Loyola Chicago Saturday afternoon at Ahearn Field House. K-State claimed the tournament crown on its way to its fifth consecutive win.

“They were a tough team,” said outside hitter Kylee Zumach after the match. “They had a great offense but we found a way to win. We are a veteran team and that’s what veteran teams do.”

K-State (7-2) trailed at only three different points during the three-set match, and never trailed by more than two points, forcing Loyola (4-5) into a negative attack percentage (-.103) in the final set - four kills, seven errors, 29 attacks. K-State hit .250 for the match and a match-high .486 in the second set.

The Cats collected all four of their team blocks in the final frame, led by sophomore middle blocker Macy Flowers with three.

Zumach led all Wildcats with 12 kills on a .348 efficiency. Brand handed out 35 assists and finished the tournament with 126 assists in the three matches (12.60 per set), aiding K-State's high attacking percentages in the four-team tournament.

Junior outside hitter Bryna Vogel was also voted to the all-tournament team, hitting .451 with 27 kills (2.70 per set) in the three matches. Vogel recorded eight kills (.500), nine digs and three aces in the win over Loyola. The Clearwater, Kansas, native has hit north of .400 in four of the last five matches.

Brooke Sassin was the only Wildcat to reach double-figure digs with 10.

Kansas State concludes a seven-match homestand Tuesday night when it welcomes Creighton to Ahearn Field House at 6 p.m. CT. Creighton defeated K-State in five sets last season in Omaha. The Blue Jays and the Wildcats both received votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll. The match can be viewed at K-StateHD.TV and heard on 1350 KMAN.
