FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Behind a season-high 13 kills from Katie Reininger, the 25th-ranked Kansas State volleyball team took a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 25-27, 25-17) decision from UMKC Friday at the Arkansas Invitational. The win is the K-State’s seventh straight, its longest since 2014.

K-State (9-2) jumped out to an early 13-6 lead in set one, forcing UMKC (7-4) to take its first timeout. The Wildcats rode out the momentum they created early to a 25-18 set win, led by Reininger who recorded six of her 13 kills in the opening game. The redshirt senior middle blocker finished with a match-best .550 (13k-2e-20ta) attack percentage.

K-State led throughout the second set and committed just a single attack error on its way to hitting .400, taking the set from the Kangaroos, 25-16.

The Cats were within a point of ending the match at 25-24 in the third set before UMKC rattled off three straight to take the third set, 27-25. K-State had its lowest hitting percentage (.118) of the match in the third set.

Kansas State answered by leading the fourth set from start to finish, led by Macy Flowers who had five of her seven kills in the final frame on seven swings. The Wildcats finished the off the Roos, 25-17, for its seventh straight victory.

Sophomore Alyssa Schultejans, last season’s aces leader, matched her career high with four, her first service aces of the season. K-State posted eight aces in the match, a season high.

Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Kylee Zumach reached double-figure kills (10) for the fifth time in the last six matches, as eight Wildcats recorded multiple kills against UMKC.

Senior libero Kersten Kober led all players in the match with 16 digs in just three sets. Senior Brooke Sassin recorded 11 digs.

Redshirt senior setter Katie Brand handed out a match-high 44 assists and added five kills and a pair of service aces.

K-State continues the Arkansas Invitational tonight as it squares off with host Arkansas at 7 p.m. at Barnhill Arena. The Wildcats will complete the non-conference portion of their schedule Saturday against Southern Miss at 10 a.m. Both matches can be followed and listened to at


·         Kansas State is now 30-3 all-time vs. UMKC and how now won the last 28 meetings between the schools. It was the first meeting between the Wildcats and Kangaroos since 2010.

·         Flowers has led or tied for the team lead in blocks in each of the past six matches.

·         The seven-match win streak is the Cats’ longest since 2014, when they rattled off 11 in a row.

·         Head coach Suzie Fritz is now 8-0 against WAC member schools.

·         Fourteen players saw action for K-State against the Roos.
