Weber Announces the Signing of Ron Freeman

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber announced the signing of prep school shooting guard Ron Freeman (Inglewood, California/Junipero Serra/Future College Prep School) on Thursday.

“We are excited to add Ron to our team and complete our recruiting class,” said Weber. “He is a young man that can give us some versatility with his athleticism and ability to score the ball. He is not only a great shooter with terrific jumping ability but also has exceptional length for both the shooting guard and small forward spots. I think his time in the prep school ranks, where he played against some of the top players in the country, will prove to be very valuable to his development.”

Freeman will receive the Wildcats’ 13th and final scholarship for the 2015-16 season.

A 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Inglewood, California, Freeman comes to K-State after spending the past year at Future College Prep School in Harbor City, California, where he played for head coach Les Bean. He helped the squad to a 40-14 overall record, which represents the third-best mark in program history. He averaged 16.6 points on 48 percent shooting from the field, including 38 percent from 3-point range, with 7.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. He also connected on 74 percent from the free throw line.

Prior to his stint at Future College, Freeman played two seasons at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California, where he was rated as the No. 15 recruit in the state of California by ESPN. He helped head coach Dwan Hurt and the Cavaliers to a 48-17 (.738) record as a junior and senior, which included consecutive CIF Southern Section Division 4AA championships and a pair of Del Rey League titles. He averaged 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks as a senior in 2013-14 en route to earning All-State Division IV honors from Cal-Hi Sports. He was also selected First Team All-Del Rey League and First Team All-Area as a senior.

Freeman also played two seasons (2011-13) at Morningside High School in his hometown of Inglewood.

Freeman is the fourth player to ink with the Wildcats since the start of Spring Signing period in May, joining NJCAA Division I First Team All-American Carlbe Ervin II (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma/Connors State College), prep school guard Kamau Stokes (Baltimore, Maryland/Fork Union Military Academy) and prep school forward Isaiah Maurice (Durham, North Carolina/Bull City [N.C.] Prep). Overall, he is the seventh player to sign with the program in the calendar year, which includes the three-man Fall Signing Class of PARADE All-American and Mr. Kansas Basketball Dean Wade (St. John, Kansas/St. John), Barry Brown (St. Petersburg, Florida/Gibbs) and Dante Williams (Arlington, Texas/Bowie)

Freeman will be one of six scholarship freshmen on a Wildcat squad that will include 10 new players in 2015-16.
