Wildcats Compete at UNI Spring Tournament

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – In its third weekend of spring scrimmages, K-State competed against Northern Illinois, UNI, South Dakota, Iowa and North Dakota State at the UNI Tournament held at the Wellness and Rec Center on Saturday.

Over the day’s entire slate of matches, Alyssa Schultejans led the Wildcats with 27 kills while teammates Brooke Sassin (22) and Bryna Vogel (21) also had 20+ kills. Kylee Zumach added 19.

Vogel, who hit .431 (21k-2e-44att), chipped in 23 digs as she was one of three Wildcats with 20+ in that category. Devan Fairfield paced the team with 29 while Kersten Kober had 24.

Mattie Batchelder, who had 17 digs, had a team-high six aces. Sassin trailed her for the team lead with five.

In the second match of the day, K-State lost the two sets to UNI 20-25, 23-25, but Zumach paced the Wildcats with eight kills on a .300 hitting efficiency. Vogel turned in six kills to go with 12 digs, while Schultejans and Katie Reininger each had five kills.

In an 18-25, 25-19 split against South Dakota, the Wildcats were paced by five kills from Zsofia Gyimes. Schultejans contributed four kills, on an errorless nine swings, while setter Katie Brand, who had 16 kills on the day, added four as well. 

The Wildcats wrap up their spring slate of scrimmages on April 23 when they head to Indianola, Iowa to train and compete against Minnesota.
