Wildcats Fall in Spring Opener against Illinois

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – In its first scrimmage of the spring, K-State dropped a four-set match to Illinois on Saturday at Truman State University (22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19).

Bryna Vogel led all Wildcats with 14 kills on 52 swings while Katie Brand contributed 11 kills on 18 attacks (one error). Katie Reininger and Alyssa Schultejans added nine and seven kills, respectively.

Vogel also added eight digs, but the team leader in that category was Kersten Kober, who had 17.

As a team, K-State hit .143 while the Fighting Illini turned in a .264 clip.

The Wildcats took their only set of the afternoon by holding Illinois to just eight kills in the opener. The offense, meanwhile, had 15 kills, with Vogel chipping in five.

Over the final three sets, Illinois hit at a .349 efficiency while K-State was held to 10, eight and 12 kills.

The two sides scrimmaged after a co-training session in the morning.

K-State will continue its month-long slate of scrimmages on April 9 when the Wildcats and UMKC host an all-day tournament at the Swinney Rec Center in Kansas City.
