Wildcats Finish Ninth in Maryb S. Kauth Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Despite shooting its lowest 54-hole score of the season, the Kansas State women’s golf team battled a talented field and finished in ninth place following the final round of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,450-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

Kansas State was led by senior Madison Talley, who posted her lowest three-round score of the season at 1-under par 215 and finished tied for 12th. She was one of three Wildcats that shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday as K-State, currently ranked 41st in the Golfstat ranking, carded a 10-over par 874 for the tournament.

“We had a good round today and we lowered our team score each round,” said head coach Kristi Knight, whose team faced six top-35 teams this week. “This field was jam packed with talent. It may not look pretty on paper, but it is a solid result. It is one we can build on.”

Junior Connie Jaffrey was one of those that shot even par in the final round and finished tied for 31st with a three-round score of 4-over par 220.

Senior Paige Nelson also finished with a 72 on Tuesday as she and sophomore Chloe Weir tied for 37th at 6-over par 222. Senior Katherine Gravel-Coursol finished at 12-over par 228 to tie for 56th.

Paced by the individual tournament champion, Alana Uriell, and runner-up, Kaylee Benton, Arkansas took the lead in the second round and never looked back, carding a 16-under par 848 to win the event. Uriell shot a 12-under par 204 to capture the victory, while Benton finished two strokes behind at 10-under par 202.

The Wildcats conclude the fall portion of their schedule in two weeks with the Trinity Forest Invitational, Nov. 7-8, in Dallas, Texas.
