Wildcats Finish Strong in Final Tune-Up Before Big 12s

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State cross country teams posted strong marks in its final race before the Big 12 Championship at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois on Friday afternoon.

“We had a good pack on the men’s side with 53 seconds between the first and seventh runner,” head coach Ryun Godfrey said. “We struggled a little on the women’s side, but we will be fine in a couple of weeks at the Big 12 Championship.”

The men’s team finished in ninth place out of 27 teams, while the women took 16th place out of 31 teams. Colorado went on to win the women’s competition with 54 total points, while Saint Louis won the men’s competition with 103 points.

K-State’s 9th-place finish on the men’s side is one spot higher than the men finished during the 2015 season, when the men finished in 10th place during the competition.

Senior Morgan Wedekind led the Wildcats by finishing in 28th place with a time of 21:39. Junior Kayla Doll recorded a 55th-place finish in the race, crossing the finish line in 22:00, while freshman Sydney Collins took 92rd place with a time of 22:26.

For the men, junior Colton Donahue finished in 30th place with a time of 25:07, while fellow junior Bryan Zack crossed the finish line in 25:12 to take 36th place, the third fastest mark on the course in school history. Junior Lukas Koch finished in 54th place with a final time of 25:24 which is good for the sixth fastest mark on the course in school history.

The Wildcats now turn their attention to the Big 12 Cross Country Championship, which will be held in Lubbock, Texas, on October 29. More information on the conference championship race, including meet history and a complete schedule, can be found here
