Wildcats led by Talley in Round One

TALLAHASSEE Fla. – In its first outing of the spring, the Kansas State women's golf team sits in a tie for 10th place after the first round of the Florida State Match-Up on Friday at the par-72, 6,265-yard Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club. The Wildcats carded a 21-over par 309 over the first 18 holes.

Junior Madison Talley led the way by carding a 1-under par 71 as she enters the second round in a tie for third place. Talley’s round-one score marks the seventh time this season that she has shot under par in a round, bettering her previous high of six during the 2014-15 season.

“Today was a bit shaky with the exception of Madison; she played well,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “It is early in the spring and this is a very good field. I believe we can sharpen things up and play more to our standards.”

Freshman Chloe Weir is tied for 44th after carding a 6-over par 78, while junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol finished the day at 7-over par 79 and in a tie for 53rd. Senior Scotland Preston carded a 9-over par 81 to sit in a tie for 60th, and junior Paige Nelson completed play on Friday in a tie for 65th at 11-over par 83.

Florida State leads the team competition at 5-over par 293, four shots ahead of a three-way tie for second place between SMU, South Carolina and Coastal Carolina. Texas A&M’s Maddie Szeryk leads the individual competition after an 3-under par 69 in the first round. Leading the Match-Up competition is the Florida State and Texas A&M pairing.

The second round of the Florida State Match-Up will start at 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. Live stats can be followed on www.golfstat.com and final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of play.
