Wildcats Look to Improve on Second Round Success

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After a slow start in the first round on Monday, the Kansas State women’s golf team bounced back with an improved second round as the Wildcats are tied for 10th place in the Minnesota Invitational at the par-72, 6,119-yard Minikahda Club. K-State shot a two-round score of 33-over par 609.

After shooting a 24-over par 312 in the first round, the Wildcats shaved 15 strokes in the second round with a 9-over par 297.

“We got off to a poor start in round one – too many penalty shots led to big numbers, but round two was a step in the right direction,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We have to focus on the positives and the stretches of good golf we played and not get down.”

Sophomore Chloe Weir led the way for Kansas State on Monday as she is tied for 22nd place at 6-over par 150, which featured an even-par score of 72 in the second round. Senior Madison Talley is three spots back in a tie for 25th at 7-over par 151.

Senior Paige Nelson and freshman Tash Carlsson are tied for 45th at 11-over par 155. Carlsson, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, made the biggest improvement from the first round, cutting nine shots off her score for a 1-over par 73.

Senior Katherine Gravel-Coursol is tied for 50th place at 14-over par 158. She improved from a 9-over par first round with a 5-over par second round, which included an eagle on the par-5 13th hole.

Playing as an individual, freshman Hayden Mammen is at 10-over par 154 and tied for 41st place.

Texas is leading the team competition with a 36-hole score of 14-over par 590. The Longhorns are paced by Greta Volker, who is tied for first at 1-under par. Along with Volker, three others sit atop the leaderboard in Minnesota’s Heather Ciskowski, Wisconsin’s Brooke Ferrell and Kentucky’s Anna Hack.

The final round of the Minnesota Invitational begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., on Tuesday. Live results can be followed at www.golfstat.com and results will be available at www.kstatesports.com at the conclusion of play Tuesday.
