Wildcats Open Big 12 Tennis Championship against Iowa State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women’s tennis will kick off the 2016 Big 12 Tennis Championship on Thursday against Iowa State in the opening round of matches at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State.

The No. 9 seeded Wildcats (10-13, 1-7 Big 12) will take on the No. 8 Cyclones at 10 a.m. on Thursday while No. 7 Oklahoma faces No. 10 West Virginia simultaneously to start the single-elimination, four-day tournament to decide the Big 12 title.

K-State and Iowa State previously met on April 8, with the Cyclones taking the match, 4-2, on their home court. The Cyclones secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions before capturing victories at No. 1, 2 and 5 singles. Carolina Costamagna (No. 3) and Millie Stretton (No. 4) earned the lone singles wins for the Wildcats.

Last year, the Wildcats and Cyclones met in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship in Waco, Texas, with K-State taking a 4-1 decision to advance to the quarterfinals.

Following Thursday’s first round matchups, the quarterfinals are set for Friday while the semifinals will take place on Saturday. The women’s championship will be broadcast on FS2 at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Seeds one through six have a first-round bye and begin competition on Friday.
