Wildcats Remain in Fifth at Big 12 Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Staying consistent with a score of 6-over par 294 on Saturday, the Kansas State women’s golf team remains in fifth place following second-round play at the 2016 Big 12 Championship at Dominion Country Club. The Wildcats hold a 36-hole score of 13-over par 589, two shots ahead of 25th-ranked Texas Tech.

Junior Madison Talley leads the Wildcats as she is in contention for her fourth top-five finish this season, sitting just three shots behind the leader in a tie for sixth place 1-under par 143.

“I am proud of the way the ladies competed today,” said K-State head coach Kristi Knight. “Overall, we did not appear to be striking the ball as well today as yesterday. We were not able to put an under-par score on the board today, but they did a good job posting scores ranging 72 to 74 as a team. We have a good opportunity tomorrow.”

Junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol bounced back during the second round, leading the team with an even-par round to move up 11 spots to a tie for 26th at 5-over par 149.

Sophomore Connie Jaffrey joined Talley in the top-20 after shooting 2-over par 74 on Saturday and holding a 36-hole score of 4-over par 148. She enters final-round play in a six-way tie for 20th. Junior Paige Nelson moved up three spots and is tied for 34th place after carding a 7-over par 151 through play on Saturday, while freshman Chloe Weir is at 10-over par 154 and is tied for 40th.

No. 9 Oklahoma State took over the led in the team competition at 2-under par 574, four shots ahead of second-place Iowa State. TCU’s Sabina Pena leads the individual competition by one stroke at 4-under par 140.

K-State will tee off the final round of 2016 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship at 8 a.m., on Sunday and will be paired with TCU and Texas Tech. Live stats can be followed on www.golfstat.com, while final results will be posted at www.k-statesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
