Wildcats in Second at David Toms Intercollegiate

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Kansas State men's golf team carded a 12-over par 588 - including a 3-over par 291 in the first round - on Saturday to enter final-round play in second place in the David Toms Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,234-yard University Club.

K-State, which has three players in the top 10, is 10 shots behind first place LSU - the defending national champions - and one shot ahead of second-place Liberty.

"I thought we played pretty well in round one and did a good job grinding it out in the second round to stay in contention," head coach Grant Robbins said.

The Wildcats are led by freshman Jeremy Gandon, who is tied for fifth place at even-par 144. The Charpy, France, native, who is coming off a tournament win two weeks ago, is one shot out of fourth place and two shots out of third. Matt Green is in eighth place at 1-over par 145 thanks to a second-round score of 2-under par 70. One shot behind Green is Oscar Spolander at 2-over par 146 to enter the final round in a tie for ninth.

"The course is playing really difficult so we just have to stay patient, make a lot of pars and try and chip away at LSU's lead tomorrow," said Robbins.

Rounding out the K-State lineup is Connor Knabe, who is tied for 30th at 10-over par 154, and Kyle Weldon, who is tied for 50th at 13-over par 157.

LSU has the top two individuals on the leaderboard as Eric Ricard is in first at 6-under par 138 - including a 7-under par 65 in round two. Nathan Jeasonne is in second place at 4-under par 140.

The final round of the David Toms Intercollegiate is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (ET) on Sunday. Live scoring for the event is available at www.golfstat.com. Final results will be posted at www.k-statesports.com at the conclusion of play.
