Wildcats Tied for Fifth at Golfweek Conference Challenge

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Kansas State men’s golf team sits in a tie for fifth place at 2-over par 290 after the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the par 72, 7,360-yard Spirit Hollow Golf Course on Friday.

The Wildcats are tied with VCU, just one stroke behind fourth-place SMU and six shots back of host school Iowa, which is in third place.

“I thought the guys competed well today,” head coach Grant Robbins said. “There is a lot of golf left, but I was pleased with how they grinded it out and put us in a good position going into tomorrow.”

K-State was led by senior Kyle Weldon at 2-under par 70 to sit in a tie for ninth place. Weldon, who started on the 10th hole, carded an eagle on the par-5 No. 2 and bookended his round with birdies on No. 10 and No. 9.

Oscar Spolander and Jeremy Gandon sit two strokes behind Weldon after both tallied three birdies in an even-par 72 round. Spolander and Gandon are tied for 15th through the first round.
