Wildcats to Compete at Columbia

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team will travel to Columbia, Missouri, to compete in its third event of the year, the Johnie Imes Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-72, 7,221-yard The Club at Old Hawthorne.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes on with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m

“We are off to a solid start and we look to continue it at Old Hawthorne,” head coach Kristi Knight said. "Through two events, our team stoke average is 294.20, which is five strokes lower than last season at this time. The returners are looking forward to playing at Old Hawthorne.”

All six members of the K-State squad will be competing in the event with Madison Talley, Connie Jaffrey, Scotland Preston, Paige Nelson and Katherine Gravel-Coursol making up the scoring lineup. Freshman Chloe Weir will participate as an individual.

In the Wildcats’ second event of the season, the Schooner Fall Classic, K-State was led by Talley, who finished in third place thanks to a second-round score of 66, the second-lowest round in school history. The team ended the rain-shortened event in a tie for seventh at 13-over par 581.

In the 2014 version of the Johnie Imes Invitational, Jaffrey captured the first Wildcat individual victory since 2007 with an 8-under par 208. K-State finished in second with a school-record low score of 14-under par 850.

Kansas State will be joined in the Johnie Imes Invitational by 17 other teams, which includes Akron, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Bradley, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, Illinois State, Iowa, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, Missouri, Rutgers, UMKC, South Florida and Wichita State.
