Williams Named Big 12 Freshman of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kansas – After recording a double-double in her career debut, Kansas State freshman forward Peyton Williams was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week. Williams is the first K-State recipient of this honor since the 2014 season and the 22nd time a Wildcat has earned the distinction.

Williams wowed the Wildcat fan base in her career debut, as she recorded the first double-double by a K-State player in their career debut since Kendra Wecker in 2001. Williams finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds in 31 minutes while starting in her first career appearance in the purple and white.

Her 12 rebounds were the most in a season-opener since Ashia Woods hauled in 13 boards in the 2012-13 opener. Williams was balanced on the glass, pulling in six rebounds on both the offensive and defensive ends. She was also strong late in the game, scoring eight of her 15 points in the final frame.

Kansas State continues its three-game home stand on Monday, as the Wildcats host Tulsa at 7 p.m. Monday’s game will be available on ESPN3 and the K-State Sports Network. To purchase tickets, contact the K-State Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 221-CATS or visit www.kstatesports.com/tickets.
