Winters Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior Dani Winters has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team for excelling both on the track and in the classroom, the organization announced on Thursday.

Winters, who majored in communication studies, was tapped for nomination in District 7 with a GPA of 3.92. She graduated earlier this month.

The Plainville, Kansas native is the first Wildcat to earn the award since the 2013-14 season, when Kyle Wait was also named to the all-district first team. Overall, Winters is the 26th Wildcat track athlete to earn Academic All-District 7 honors since 2002-03.

Winters has been outstanding on the track, winning the 2016 Indoor NCAA Championship in the shot put. She is also a two-time outdoor Big 12 champion in the same event and won the 2015 indoor conference title. Academically, she has been named first team Academic All-Big 12 each year she has been at K-State.

Winters will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected and announced in June.

Winters will compete in shot put at the NCAA West Preliminary in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday. The event is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. CT.
