Cats Wrap Up First Day of OU Invite

NORMAN, Okla. - The Kansas State women's tennis team saw two doubles pairs advance to Saturday's finals in their respective flights after the first day of the Oklahoma Invitational Friday.

The duo of Millie Stretton and Ana Garcia Navas picked up a 6-4 win over Katelyn Jackson and Lynn Kiro of Texas Tech in their opening match before defeating Oklahoma's Lily Miyazaki and Julie Byrne, 6-4, in the semifinal round. Stretton and Garcia Navas will face Tanaporn Thongsing and Ting-Ya Hsu of Wichita State in Saturday's Flight 1 finals at 9 a.m.

K-State's tandem of Carolina Costamagna and Palma Juhasz also advanced to their respective flight's championship match via victories over North Texas' team of Thoma/Babic (6-2) and Fotopoulos/Brigante of Oklahoma (6-4). Costamagna and Juhasz will also begin their championship match at 9 a.m., and will square off with Tulsa's duro  of Mahitha Dadireddy and Vera Ploner.

Juhasz along with teammate Maria Paniate also picked up singles victories during the opening day's round-robin round. Juhasz defeated Ploner of Tulsa 6-4, 6-0 and Paniate upended SMU's Mary Wright in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-3).

The Wildcats continue play at the OU Invitational Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., and will wrap up the three-day event Sunday, Oct. 2.
