More Letters from John Currie

A Letter From John Currie - July 16

Good afternoon Wildcat Nation!

I hope everyone is having a relaxing and enjoyable summer. As we inch closer to the start of the fall semester – our football, volleyball and cross country programs will begin fall practice in roughly three weeks – I wanted to update you on what’s going on inside K-State Athletics.

Coming Soon!
We are committed to providing the best fan experience in the Big 12 and finding ways for Wildcat fans worldwide to have as much access to K-State Athletics as possible. In just a few weeks, we will unveil a new k-statesports.com that will provide numerous improvements and features to significantly enhance your internet experience. Included in the revamped site will be live FREE audio streaming for all Wildcat sporting events, an updated ticket page that will allow for more user-friendly navigation, access to a nationally prominent online merchandise store with outstanding variety and options, the latest in video players for Powercat Passport subscribers, Gametracker live stats and much more. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we launch this new platform. Once it is up and running, let us know how it is working for you and additional improvements you'd like to see.

New Radio Affiliate in Wichita Area
In addition to providing our new FREE internet audio service, we are pleased to announce that our partners at Learfield Communications have worked to establish a new radio affiliate in the Wichita area. It has been a priority to improve our signal strength in the greater Wichita area and we believe the addition of 107.9 FM (KWLS) in Winfield will help fill some of the existing nighttime broadcast voids. KWLS is a 50,000-watt FM signal that covers the eastern and southeastern parts of Wichita, Winfield, Arkansas City, Wellington, Derby, Augusta, Rose Hill, Andover and El Dorado. For more information, including coverage maps and details of all stations on the network, visit k-statesports.com in the coming weeks.

Six Weeks until Kickoff!
Excitement is building as our nationally-televised football opener against UCLA on September 4 draws nearer. Tickets are going fast, so if you haven’t already secured your seat in Bill Snyder Family Stadium, we recommend you act quickly. Call the ticket office at 1-800-221-CATS, visit k-statesports.com or stop by the ticket office in Bramlage Coliseum to purchase tickets to the season-opener or season tickets for all six exciting home contests. Our student-athletes need you there!

Ahearn Fund Membership Update
I mentioned in my previous letter that we surpassed our 2010 goal and set a record for annual fund cash gifts. We were able to accomplish that goal thanks to your effort and participation as members of the Ahearn Fund. Membership grew by more than 10 percent as approximately 650 new members joined the Ahearn Fund in 2009-10! This grass-roots support is a great way for our fans to directly enhance the student-athlete experience at K-State and is our largest single source of revenue. For example, thanks to this increased support we are currently refreshing the interior of the Vanier complex and are hiring a new Learning Specialist in Academic Services. Your dollars are helping many of our coaches cover a ton of ground out on the July recruiting circuit and are funding summer school for 192 student-athletes. If you are not already a member you can help by joining the Ahearn Fund for as little as $50 at www.ahearnfund.com.

Daniel Thomas Named Preseason All-American
Big 12 football media days will take place July 26-28 in Arlington, Texas, and the Wildcats have begun to receive some recognition as Daniel Thomas was recently named a preseason All-American by College Football Insiders. Daniel, along with Coach Snyder, Tysyn Hartman and Zach Kendall, will represent the Wildcats at the annual Big 12 media days on Tuesday, July 27. Check k-statesports.com for complete coverage of the event.

Martin Named 1st Vice-President of CABMA
Stacy Martin, Assistant AD for Business, will soon begin her duties as 1st Vice President of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) after serving this past year as 2nd Vice President. Stacy has brought great perspective and professionalism to K-State and is well-respected by her peers nationally.

That’s it for today! Enjoy some summer relaxation with your families and friends, remember to get your tickets now for September 4 and...

Go Cats!

John Currie
