AUSTIN, Texas - The second day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds were a success for the Kansas State track and field teams as one Wildcat advanced to the NCAA Championship in field events with another in a running event and two moved onto quarterfinals in running events scheduled for Saturday.

Thrower Jacquelyne Leffler opened the day strong for the Wildcats as she posted a new personal best mark of 169-10 on her third attempt. The throw was enough to win the first flight at the West Preliminaries and move onto the finals as one of the top 16 at the meet. In the finals, she did not improve but was able to hold onto her spot in 11th place and advance to the NCAA Championship in two weeks at Drake University. The throw also moves Leffler into seventh in K-State history.

The day continued for K-State with senior Tomaz Bogovic in the men's hammer throw. The native of Slovenia finished 25th with his toss of 191-04 to end his season. In K-State's other field event on Friday, freshman high jumper Alyx Treasure cleared 5-09.25 but did so on her third attempt dropping her down in the standings. Treasure finished 21st overall as she also took three attempts to clear 5-07.25.

K-State had four runners qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the shorter hurdles race. Newcomer Tarique Hill ran 14.35 seconds to finish seventh in his heat and 38th overall coming up short of the place needed to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals in the event.

Three of K-State's heptathletes qualified for the preliminaries in the 100 meter hurdles, and two of them advanced to the quarterfinals on Saturday. Newcomers Richelle Farley and Mairead Murphy each made their mark on Friday with each keeping their hurdles season alive as Murphy has already qualified for the NCAA Championship in the heptathlon.

Farley finished second in her heat to receive an automatic bid into Saturday's quarterfinals. She clocked in at a wind-aided 13.37 seconds. Senior transfer Mairead Murphy grabbed the final spot in Saturday's quarterfinals as she qualified by time clocking in at 13.65 seconds. Her time stood 27th to take the last spot in the next round by just .004 of a second. Senior hepathlete Ryann Krais finished 39th overall with her time of 13.86 as she will turn her focus to defending her NCAA title in the heptathlon in two weeks.

The final event of the day for the Wildcats was the 800 meters where Armando Del Valle and Boglarka Bozzay were both looking to advance through the quarterfinals and into the semis at the NCAA Championship in two weeks. Del Valle finished seventh in his heat at 1:51.14 but failed to advance, coming in 19th overall. Bozzay clocked in at 2:06.28 after closing the race strong over the final 200 meters moving up from fifth to win. She ran the final 200 meters in 30.8 seconds. With her win, Bozzay automatically qualified for the national semifinals at Drake in two weeks.

Saturday will mark the close of the NCAA West Preliminary Heats with Wildcats competing in five events. Farley and Murphy will be slated to run at approximately 7:05 p.m. in the 100 meter hurdles. The running will open for the Wildcats in the men's 4x100 relay at 6 p.m. The women's team will field a 4x400 team at approximately 9:30 p.m. in addition to Big 12 champions Kyle Wait and Erik Kynard taking on the field in the pole vault and high jump, respectively.
