AMES, Iowa – Travel problems created by Winter Storm Q has caused the postponement of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship by one day in Ames, Iowa. The Midwest was hit with heavy snows as highways and airports were closed, affecting the travel of many teams.

The meet will follow the same event schedule, just pushed back one day. Action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with the pentathlon and first day of the heptathlon. Preliminary heats in running events and some field events will also be held Saturday at the Leid Recreational Center.

Anticipating poor weather, the K-State team changed its plans for getting to Ames. The Wildcats were originally scheduled to bus Ames, leaving at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Instead, K-State left Wednesday afternoon.

Baylor arrived in Ames at 1:45 p.m. Thursday after making changes as well. The Bears changed their flight from Dallas to Minneapolis rather than flying into Kansas City as originally planned, and MCI would later close at noon.

Big 12 athletic directors arrived at the decision to push the meet schedule back a day as Oklahoma State was unable to get Ames on time. The Cowboys and Cowgirls did bump up their original travel schedule but drove into the snow storm and was stuck in Topeka.

Rather than going on with the meet as scheduled without Oklahoma State competing, the athletic directors voted 10-0 late Thursday night to postpone the meet by one day.
