Big 12 ReleaseMANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior Carlos Rodriguez was named Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his dominant showing at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz. Rodriguez posted first-place finishes in the 100 meter, 200 meter and as a member of the 4x100 team.
Scoring 30 of the Wildcat men’s 134 points, Rodriguez not only went a perfect three-for-three in his events, but was also named the Jim Click Shootout Male Athlete of the Meet. In the 200 meter, Rodriguez’s time of 20.83 seconds placed him second all-time in the K-State top-five for wind-aided marks. Lastly, Rodriguez, along with Tyris Jefferson, Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye and Magnus Scott, Jr., finished first in the 4x100 in a time of 40.47 seconds – the first victory for a K-State 4x100 squad this season.
Rodriguez currently sits in the Division I top-50 for last weekend’s efforts in the 100m and 200m as well. His 100 time is 43rd in DI, while his 200 time slots him at No. 31 in the country. Both times also sit in the West Region top-20, as well as the top-10 in the Big 12 leader board.
The weekly accolade is the second-straight week a Wildcat men’s athlete has earned the award and also the first of Rodriguez’s career. Reinis Kregers earned the award the previous week for his performance in the heptathlon at the Sam Adams Multi. This also marks the first time a primary-track athlete has earned the award since Boglarka Bozzay, now Davies, did so on Feb. 21, 2012.
Rodriguez, along with a large group of Wildcats, will travel to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays, while a smaller group heads to Lawrence, Kan., for the Kansas Relays.
