May 14, 2014K-State AthleticsMANHATTAN, Kan. – For the first time in her career, senior Erica Twiss was named Big 12 Athlete of the Week earlier today for her personal best performance at the Wildcat Open. Competing in the long jump, Twiss finished first with a leap of 6.37m/20-10.75.

She is the third K-State athlete to earn the weekly award this outdoor season, joining Reinis Kregers and Carlos Rodriguez.

The first-place effort by Twiss was not only a personal best, but moved her to No. 3 all-time in the K-State top-10. Her mark was the best by a K-State athlete in the event since Nina Kokot tied a school record of 6.38m/20-11.25 at the 2011 NCAA Championships. The Carrollton, Texas, native is currently second in the Big 12, third in the Division I West Region and ninth in the country. This is also the second time this season Twiss has set a PR in the event outdoors.

The weekly accolade adds to an exceptional season by the senior. Already with a Big 12 title in the pentathlon during the indoor season, Twiss has set personal bests in four total events outdoors – 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles, 400H and long jump – with each PR, except for the 200 meter, ranking within its respective top-five in school history.

The Wildcats are in Lubbock, Texas, this week for the Big 12 Championships, set to begin Friday, May 16.
