GO WILDCATS

June 26, 2014K-State AthleticsMANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior Kyle Wait added one more honor to what has been an excellent K-State career, earning Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country First Team honors. A first time member, Wait is only the seventh Wildcat track and field individual in the past decade to earn First Team Academic All-America honors and the first since Ryann Krais in 2011-12.

Majoring in wildlife and outdoor enterprise management, Wait finished the 2013-14 academic year with a 3.68 grade point average. His latest accolade added to an already strong senior campaign in the classroom that included being named to the Academic All-Big 12 and CoSIDA Academic All-District teams. For his career, Wait is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 member, as well as a 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member.

The Gardner, Kansas, native replicated that success in the pole vault, concluding his final season at K-State with a Big 12 title and All-American recognition indoors and a runner-up showing at Big 12 outdoors. In total, his three conference pole vault titles are the most of any Wildcat pole vaulter in the Big 12 era and only Doug Lytle at four has reached All-American status more as a Wildcat pole vaulter than Wait’s three-time recognition.

Wait joins 14 other Division I men’s student-athletes on the first team and is only one of two to be nominated from the Big 12 Conference, joining Oklahoma State’s Nick Miller. For more information, visit www.k-statesports.com.
