MANHATTAN, Kan. – Before returning home to Toledo, Ohio or on campus at Kansas State, Olympic silver medalist Erik Kynard will make an appearance on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman. Kynard travelled to New York this week for the show’s taping on Wednesday, which will air Thursday night on CBS at 10:35 p.m. following the local news. K-State Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto also made the journey to join Kynard in New York.
Kynard became the fifth K-State track and field athlete to ever medal at the Olympics and the first to do so since Austra Skujyte won silver for Lithuania in 2004.
He will appear on the show as part of Late Show’s Olympians Week. Gold medalist in the decathlon Ashton Eaton appeared on the show Monday, and Tuesday featured the women’s gymnastics team. Gold medalist in swimming Dana Vollmer will be on Wednesday night’s show.
Kynard will be joined on the show by other guest actor/comedian Tracy Morgan of fame from NBC’s 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. The musical guest on Thursday’s episode is slated to be Ben Howard promoting his new album “Every Kingdom.”
Letterman’s show has traditionally embraced Olympians from Team USA following the games. On Monday’s episode with Eaton, the host quipped back and forth about the decathlon and pulled out a shot put and discus during the interview to display their heft. Letterman even displayed a good knowledge on the high jump, causing Eaton to joke the host knew more about the event than he did.
Following his appearance on Late Show, Kynard will return home for a few days before coming back to K-State to start the fall semester next week.
