2012 Academic All-Big 12 Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Five Kansas State cross country runners earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, as the league office announced its academic teams on Tuesday.

Senior Kyle Hanson and sophomore Fernando Roman collected the honor from the men’s team, while senior Laura Lee Baird, sophomore Laura Galvan and sophomore Erika Schiller represented the women’s squad.  Hanson and Baird earned the academic accolade for the third consecutive season, while Schiller was one of just 13 selected to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA.  Galvan and Roman earned the honor for the first time in their Wildcat careers.

Overall, the Big 12 named 127 student-athletes to the men’s and women’s first and second teams.

Student-athletes need to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher or participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled meets in order to qualify, while student-athletes must post a 3.2 GPA or higher to earn first team honors.  Also, freshmen and transfers are not eligible during the first academic year they are at their respective school.  Student-athletes who are seniors that have participated in cross country for at least two years and meet each requirement except participation percent are eligible as well.

K-State will return to the course this Saturday when the Wildcats compete in the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas.
