A former standout infielder at Kansas State, Drew Biery is in his third season on the K-State staff. Biery returned to Manhattan prior to the 2012 season following a three-year stint in the San Francisco Giants organization. He is responsible for the team's equipment and video operations, while assisting with other daily functions.
A four-year letterwinner for the Wildcats from 2006-09, Biery was drafted by the Giants in the 22nd round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He spent his first season playing for the Class A Short-Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League, hitting .326 with six home runs and 48 RBI en route to being named the league's MVP and player of the year as the Volcanoes won the Northwest League Championship. Biery spent the 2010 season with the High A San Jose Giants and won another championship as he helped the Giants win the California League. Biery reached Double A Richmond in 2011 before an injury forced him to retire.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Biery held a career batting average of .297 at K-State, including a .329 mark in 2009 as he helped lead the Wildcats to a school-record 43 wins and their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. The shortstop set career highs in multiple categories in 2009, including average, hits (68), doubles (17), home runs (9) and RBI (44).
Biery is married to the former Jana Lechtenberg, who was a member of the K-State equestrian program from 2005-09. The couple resides in Manhattan.
