Last Time Out
The K-State baseball team held its first lead of the 2014 season, but three runs by San Francisco in the bottom of the ninth gave the Dons a 7-6 walk-off win over the Wildcats on Tuesday at Benedetti Diamond. K-State led for the entire game - until the final at-bat - as Mitch Meyer's two-out, two-run double in the first made it 2-0 K-State. Ross Kivett hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to make it 4-1 K-State while a sac fly by Carter Yagi in the eighth inning gave the Wildcats a 6-4 advantage. K-State reliever Jake Matthys suffered the loss after allowing five hits to the six batters he faced in the ninth and being responsible for all three San Francisco runs in the frame. K-State starting pitcher Landon Busch held the Dons to one unearned run in 4.0 innings while Wildcats' reliever Nate Griep threw 2.2 perfect innings of relief for K-State while striking out four.

Portland Series
K-State has previously faced Portland once in program history, losing 7-3 to the Pilots in 2005.

Saint Mary's Series
K-State has never faced Saint Mary's.

UC Davis Series
K-State has never faced UC Davis.

Press Start
The K-State starting pitchers have compiled a 3.18 ERA (6er, 17.0ip) in four games this season, helping the team post a 5.29 ERA overall. Two starters, Levi MaVorhis and Landon Busch, did not allow an earned run in their respective starts. Jared Moore, meanwhile, surrendered three runs in his 5.1 innings pitched.

Offense Rising
K-State's offense scored a season-high six runs on nine hits - also a season-high - in the Wildcats' 7-6 loss to San Francisco on Feb. 18. The run total of six was double K-State's total from its entire first weekend (three) at Cal Poly. The Wildcats also had two extra-base hits against San Francisco after recording just one extra-base hit during Opening Weekend.

Fish On Base
Austin Fisher has continued to occupy the base paths in the early part of the season. The junior has reached base safely at least twice in the first four games, including three times (single, walk, hit by pitch) on Feb. 18 at San Francisco. Dating back to last season, Fisher has a five-game on-base streak. His .563 OBP leads the team but is also fourth-best among Big 12 hitters. Fisher has reached base with four walks, three hits and two hit by pitches.

Yard Work
Ross Kivett hit K-State's first home run of 2014 in the fourth inning on Feb. 18 at San Francisco. The senior's two-run shot was his first homer since he hit two on May 31, 2013 vs. Wichita State in the Manhattan Regional. It was Kivett's first career home run on the road. All three of his previous career home runs were hit in Tointon Family Stadium.

Rough Start
For the first time since 1973, K-State has started its season 0-4. The 1973 Wilddcats started their season 0-8 before earning its first win vs. Friends on March 21 in Manhattan. This year's Wildcats have been outscored 25-9 while opponents are out-hitting K-State .333-.163.

Bad Streak
K-State is in the midst of a four-game losing streak and has lost six straight games dating back to the end of last season at the Corvallis Super Regional. The Wildcats' current four-game losing streak is the longest K-State losing streak since a nine-game streak in late 2012. Last season, K-State never lost more than two games in a row.

Fresh Pitching Staff
K-State has used six freshman pitchers so far this season, including four true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen. The Wildcats are one of three DI teams that used six or more freshman hurlers during the opening weekend, joining Stanford (6) and Rutgers (9). Of the 12 pitchers used this season by K-State, seven had never pitched at the Division I level. In addition to the six freshmen, junior college transfer Jake Whaley pitched, tossing 1 1/3 innings on Feb. 15. Also among the seven newly minted pitchers, four - Nate Griep, Braxton Wilks, Ethan Landon and Jon Roblez - have not allowed a run through the first four games of the season.

RISP-Y Business
K-State is hitting 4-for-31 (.129) with runners in scoring position and has stranded 30 runners on base, including 19 in its last two games. The Wildcats stranded nine runners on Feb. 16 at Cal Poly before leaving a season-high 10 runners on base on Feb. 18 at San Francisco.

From The Top
Although K-State is having trouble converting runners into runs, the Wildcats are hitting .333 (12-for-36) when leading off an inning. Austin Fisher is 3-for-4 when leading off an inning this season.

Leaderboard Watch
Ross Kivett is poised to move up several K-State record leaderboards this weekend. The second baseman needs six hits to give him 215 in his career and tie Heath Schesser (1995-97) for 10th all-time in Wildcat history. Kivett also needs two stolen bases to tie Tim Decker (61, 1993-95) for third on the career stolen bases list. Kivett needs three stolen bases to tie Nick Martini (62, 2009-11) for second on the all-time K-State career stolen bases list.
