MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State junior closer James Allen was named to the midseason watch list for the seventh annual Stopper of the Year Award, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced Thursday.

Allen, who is one of 45 pitchers nationally named to the watch list, is 2-1 with a 0.70 ERA and 10 saves this season. His save total ranks second in the Big 12 and seventh nationally. The St. Charles, Mo., product has struck out 31 batters and walked just six, while he has limited opponents to a .149 batting average.

The right-hander, who has 24 career saves, is two shy of tying both the Kansas State career and single-season records. Daniel Edwards holds both records with 26 saves in his four-year career, including 12 in 2008. Edwards was also named to the midseason watch list for the Stopper of the Year Award in 2008.

Allen is joined on the list by fellow Big 12 relief pitchers Joaquin Hinojosa (Texas A&M), Corey Knebel (Texas) and John Neeley (Texas Tech).

Kansas State hosts Texas Tech in a three-game conference series beginning 6:30 p.m., today at Tointon Family Stadium. The series continues on Friday with another 6:30 p.m., first pitch, while Saturday's series finale is set for 1 p.m.
