AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas State junior third baseman RJ Santigate was one of 12 players named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.

Santigate, who earned the seventh academic all-district accolade in the last seven seasons at K-State, picked up his first-career designation as the third baseman holds a 3.32 GPA in social sciences.

A former community-college transfer, Santigate is in his second season with the program as the junior is hitting .331 with three doubles and a triple to go along with 27 RBI. The Las Vegas, Nev., product ranks eighth in the Big 12 in hits (57) and 10th in walks (23), while his 53 singles this year are four shy of entering the top 10 in K-State history.

Santigate is the first Wildcat since Jason King in 2011 to pick up first team academic all-district honors. Prior to King, Brett Scott earned the nod in both 2007 and 2008, while he went on to claim Academic All-American honors in 2008. King and Thomas Rooke were honored in 2009 before Carter Jurica was selected in 2010.

The accolade now qualifies Santigate for Capital One Academic All-America consideration in upcoming voting by CoSIDA members. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and participate in at least 50 percent of his team’s games. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible.

Kansas State takes on Texas in a three-game series, Friday through Sunday, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. The series begins with a 6:30 p.m., contest Friday evening. All three games can be heard in the Manhattan area on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN and online (for free) at both www.k-statesports.com and www.1350kman.com.

The series will be televised on the Longhorn Network, which is available on Cox Communications Manhattan channel 272 and AT&T U-Verse Manhattan channel 609.
