MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former K-State pitcher Evan Marshall had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, the organization announced. It will be Marshall's first stint in the Major Leagues.

Marshall, 24, was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB Draft, and spent all of last season and the start of this season with the Triple-A Reno Aces. This year, in 14 appearances with the Aces, Marshall posted a 0.54 ERA (1er, 16.2ip) with 19 strikeouts and a .175 batting average against.

A native of Sunnyvale, California, Marshall pitched for K-State from 2009 to 2011, registering a 3.55 ERA in 85 career appearances. In his junior season in 2011, the right-hander had a 1.62 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 30 games, helping the Wildcats reach their third straight NCAA Regional. Marshall, who was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team as a sophomore in 2010, is second in school history in career appearances.

Marshall will become the second Wildcat currently in the Majors, joining pitcher Carlos Torres of the New York Mets. Torres made his big league debut in 2009 with the Chicago White Sox and has appeared in 93 Major League games in his career.

Marshall will be the 11th player in K-State history to play in the Major Leagues.
