MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas PumpJacks
Mitch Meyer, who was recently named the Texas Collegiate League (TCL) Player of the Week, had seven hits in four games last week for the East Texas Pump Jacks… The outfielder went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI Thursday against the Woodlands, while he also had three hits with a double on Sunday at the Texas Marshals… In 11 games this summer, Meyer is hitting .432 (19-for-44) with three doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI… East Texas finished the first half of the season with an even 15-15 record and is 2-2 to begin the second half.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Future sophomore Jake Matthys has completed his time with the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League… In his only start on June 23, Matthys allowed an unearned run in five innings, taking a no decision after allowing only one hit with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Blair DeBord began his summer last week playing for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League… He went 0-for-2 with a run on Saturday against Chatham before going 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run Sunday at Orleans… Harwich is in second place with a 12-9 record.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats – Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig – are playing for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny… Through July 4, Busch was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings and Witcig was 1-0 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings… Speer was hitting .321 (8-for-28) with a double, one triple and 11 RBI, while DeVinney was hitting .375 (10-for-32) with two doubles and seven RBI… Junction City has won 12 of its last 14 games.
Pitcher Blake McFadden and infielder RJ Santigate have completed their time playing for the Mat-Su Miners… McFadden tossed just 0.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits, while Santigate was 0-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple did not play last week for the North Central Kansas Knights… The future sophomore is hitting .279 (11-for-56) in 16 games with two doubles, two RBI and 11 runs scored… The Knights are 10-25 this summer.
Infielder Ross Kivett had four multi-hit games last week the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League… He began his week going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI Monday at Falmouth, was 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI Wednesday against Chatham, was 2-for-5 with a RBI Friday against Brewster and 2-for-4 against Harwich… In 10 games, Kivett is hitting .278 (10-for-36) with two doubles, a homer and five RBI… The Firebirds are 9-11 this summer.
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, are playing for the Rossville Rattlers… As of June 26, Bee was hitting .409 (9-for-26) with a double, a homer and six RBI in seven games, while Miles was hitting .250 (8-for-32) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in eight games… MaVorhis was 1-0 with a 3.07 ERA in three games with just one walk and 13 strikeouts, while Wilks was 0-1 with a save and a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings.
Topeka Golden Giants
Infielder Jake Wodtke is hitting .382 with four doubles, one homer and seven RBI for the Topeka Golden Giants, who clinched the Walter Johnson Baseball League North Division with a 14-4 record… The Golden Giants are 23-11 overall.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): A right-handed reliever for the New York Mets, Torres continued his torrid stretch with two scoreless outings against the Arizona Diamondbacks last week… He threw 1.2 innings and allowed two hits with a strikeout on Monday before tossing three scoreless frames with two strikeouts on Thursday… A 15th-round pick of the White Sox in 2004, Torres lowered his ERA to 0.66 as he has allowed just one run over 13.2 innings with two walks and 12 strikeouts… The Mets are 37-48… Torres began 2013 pitching for Triple A Las Vegas, accumulating a 6-3 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts before being called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): Goedert, a free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, had hits in six of seven games last week for Triple A Indianapolis… The third baseman Hit a RBI double on Monday against Louisville, had three hits and a RBI Tuesday at Louisville and also had a RBI against the Bats on Wednesday and registered two more hits Friday at Toledo… Goedert raised his batting average to .248 over 85 games with 21 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 47 RBI… Indianapolis continues to lead the International League West Division by a wide margin at 58-34.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): Jurica, a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, went hitless in four games last week for Triple A Fresno… The shortstop is hitting .259 in 76 games with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBI… Fresno holds a 41-50 record.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): A fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, Marshall was outstanding in three appearances out of the bullpen last week for Triple A Reno… The right-hander threw 2.1 no-hit innings with a walk and three strikeouts on Monday against Salt Lake City, tossed 1.1 scoreless innings with three fanned batters Thursday at Colorado Springs and also recorded an out Saturday in a situational outing… Marshall is 2-5 with a 4.79 ERA in 33 outings with 20 walks and 36 strikeouts… The Aces are 35-56 this season.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): A seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, Tenbrink had eight hits last week for Triple A Tacoma… The outfielder/third baseman went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI Tuesday against Colorado Springs prior to a three-hit game on Wednesday against the Sky Sox… He capped his week with a RBI triple Friday at Salt Lake City… In 79 games, Tenbrink is hitting .244 with 13 doubles, four triples, seven homers and 36 RBI… The Rainers lead the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League by four games at 53-38.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): Bloxom, a 2009 draft pick by Washington, had a pair of hits and walked six times last week for Double A Harrisburg… The first baseman singled Thursday and Friday, while he registered two-walk games on Wednesday and Saturday… Bloxom is hitting .230 with 13 doubles, one triple, five homers and 45 RBI in 82 games… Harrisburg leads the Eastern Division of the Eastern League with a 49-41 mark.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): A 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, Hunter was used in two games last week for Double A Jackson… The left-hander tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and only gave up one hit with no walks and three strikeouts Tuesday against Birmingham… Mostly used as a situational lefty, Hunter was used in long relief on Sunday when he allowed a run on just two hits over four innings at Pensacola… Hunter holds a 1-0 record and a 1.44 ERA in 22 games with seven walks and 19 strikeouts over 31.1 innings… Jackson is in second place in the Southern Division of the Southern League with a 9-8 second-half record… Prior to his time in Jackson, Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert earlier this season.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): Morris, a 2009 draft choice by Washington, picked up the win in his lone start last week for Double A Tennessee… The right-hander pitched six scoreless innings, working around six hits with only one walk and two strikeouts on Wednesday at Montgomery… In 19 games, including five starts, Morris holds a 3-0 record and a 3.69 ERA with 25 walks and 38 strikeouts over 46.1 innings… Tennessee leads the Southern Division of the Southern League with a 10-6 record to begin the second half.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): A seventh-round selection in 2011, Allen suffered losses in both starts last week for High A Bakersfield… Allen only lasted one inning, allowing six runs on five hits, Tuesday at Lancaster, while he surrendered four runs on four hits in 4.1 innings Sunday against Modesto… In 18 games this year – all starts – Allen is 5-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 95.1 innings with 35 walks and 50 strikeouts… Bakersfield is 6-12 to begin the second half of the season.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): Hinkle, a 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, had hits in four of six games last week for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League… The first baseman doubled Wednesday against Peoria and went 4-for-5 with two runs scored Thursday at Clinton, while he hit a solo homer and singled against Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday, respectively… In 75 games, Hinkle is hitting .262 with 20 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 39 RBI… The Bees are 5-12 to open the second half of the season.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): King, a fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, registered 10 hits in seven games last week for West Michigan… The third baseman finished his week with four-straight two-hit games, hitting solo home runs against Great Lakes on both Thursday and Friday, while he drove in two runs Sunday at Lake County… King is hitting .248 in 38 games for West Michigan with four doubles, six homers and 17 RBI… He began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games… West Michigan is 8-10 to begin the second half.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): A seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, Martini had four hits in five games last week for the Peoria Chiefs… His first three hits were singles before he doubled and scored two runs Sunday against Beloit… In 62 games, Martini is hitting .242 with 10 doubles, one triple and 19 RBI… The Chiefs are 8-9 to start the second half of the season.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): King, a fifth-round selection by the New York Mets this year, registered a pair of multi-hit games last week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League… The outfielder, who double Tuesday at Staten Island, went 2-for-4 at Aberdeen on Friday and came back with three hits and a RBI Saturday against the IronBirds… In 16 games, King is hitting .250 (15-for-60) with four doubles and six RBI… The Cyclones are 8-12 to begin the season.

Dan Klein (Class A Short-Season: Vancouver/Toronto): A 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, Klein had two hits in three games last week for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League… The catcher went 0-for-4 but drove in a run Wednesday against Everett before going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI Saturday at Hillsboro… In 13 games, Klein is hitting .225 (9-for-40) with a double, one triple, one home run and eight RBI… Vancouver is 14-10 to begin the season.

Jake Brown (Rookie: Bristol/Chicago AL): A 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, Brown registered hit in both games he played in last week for the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie Appalachian League… The shortstop went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs Friday at Greeneville before singling on Saturday… In seven games for Bristol, Brown is 6-for-26 (.231) with a double and three RBI… Prior to his time in Bristol, Brown played 15 games for High A Kannapolis, hitting .316 (18-for-57) with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI.

Joe Flattery (Rookie: GCL Tigers/Detroit): Flattery, a free agent signee by Detroit following the 2013 season, pitched in one game last week as he tossed two scoreless innings on Friday against the GCL Yankees… The left-hander allowed three hits and a walk with three strikeouts… In two appearances, Flattery has not yielded a run over three innings with a walk and four strikeouts… The GCL Tigers are 7-2.
