MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas Pump Jacks
Mitch Meyer had four hits in four games last week for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League… The outfielder had three RBI last Tuesday against Victoria, while he had two hits – including a triple – and two RBI Sunday against the Generals… In addition, Meyer pitched in his second game Saturday, giving up five runs on two hits with two walks while recording one out … In 18 games, Meyer is hitting .414 (29-for-70) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 21 RBI… East Texas is 7-7 to begin the second half of the season.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Jared Moore earned a pair of wins in two relief outings last week for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League… The left-hander allowed a run and worked around five hits in 1.2 innings last Tuesday against Utica, while he tossed two no-hit innings with one strikeout Thursday against Cooperstown… In three outings, Moore holds a 1.93 ERA… Future sophomore Jake Matthys made one start for Glens Falls earlier this summer, allowing an unearned run on one hit in five innings with a walk and seven strikeouts on June 23… The Golden Eagles are 23-16.
Catcher Blair DeBord had hits in three of his four games since July 15 for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League… The Manhattan product singled in his last three games, while he did have a RBI without recording a hit last Monday against Cotuit… In eight games, DeBord is hitting .200 (5-for-25) with a double and two RBI… The Mariners are in second place in the eastern division with a 17-5-1 record.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats – Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig – are playing for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny… Updated statistics for the Brigade were not available, but through July 4, Busch was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings and Witcig was 1-0 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings… Speer was hitting .321 (8-for-28) with a double, one triple and 11 RBI, while DeVinney was hitting .375 (10-for-32) with two doubles and seven RBI… Junction City is 18-10 this season.
Pitcher Blake McFadden and infielder RJ Santigate have completed their time playing for the Mat-Su Miners… McFadden tossed a third of an inning, allowing a run on two hits, while Santigate was 0-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple has hits in each of his last four games for the North Central Kansas Knights… The outfielder recorded a two-hit game with a double and a RBI Saturday against the Wichita Aviators… In 21 games, Dalrymple is hitting .300 (18-for-60) with three doubles, four RBI and 12 runs scored… The Knights are 12-32.
Cape Cod League All-Star Ross Kivett has continued his torrid play for the Orleans Firebirds… The infielder has 15 hits in his last eight games, including a pair of four-hit contests, while he also has five doubles and two RBI during that stretch… In 24 games, Kivett leads the Firebirds with a .368 average with eight doubles, two homers and 12 RBI… Shane Conlon joined the Firebirds last week and is 2-for-19 over his first five games… Orleans is 16-18 this summer.
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, are playing for the Rossville Rattlers… As of July 16, Bee was hitting .344 (21-for-69) with three doubles, one triple, three home runs and 14 RBI, while Miles was hitting .205 (8-for-39) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI… MaVorhis was 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in five games with just two walks and 32 strikeouts, while Wilks was 1-2 with a save and a 3.15 ERA in 20 innings… Wilks has also played in 24 games in the field, hitting .254 with four doubles, one triple, one homer and nine RBI.
Topeka Golden Giants
The Topeka Golden Giants completed their season with a 33-16 overall record and finished as the runner-up in the Walter Johnson Baseball League… Infielders Shane Conlon and Jake Wodtke played for the Golden Giants as Conlon went 6-for-15 in four games with three doubles and two RBI, while Wodtke hit .382 (21-for-55) with four doubles, a homer and seven RBI.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): A right-handed pitcher for the New York Mets, Torres made his first start after the All-Star break a good one Tuesday night against Atlanta… A 15th-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2004, Torres allowed one run over six innings, working around seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts, while the Braves were just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position with him in the game… In addition, he registered a RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning… In 12 games for the Mets, including two starts, Torres is 1-1 with a 0.94 ERA, surrendering only three earned runs on 25 hits with four walks and 26 strikeouts in 28.2 innings… The Mets are fourth in the National League East Division with a 44-52 record… Torres began 2013 pitching for Triple A Las Vegas, accumulating a 6-3 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts before being called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): Goedert, a free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, had three hits in four games after the All-Star break for Triple A Indianapolis… The infielder recorded a two-hit game with a double and a RBI Tuesday at Charlotte… Goedert is hitting .243 in 97 games with 23 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 52 RBI… Indianapolis holds an 11-game lead in the International League West Division with a 63-42 record.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): Jurica, a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, had a pair of hits in two games after the All-Star break for Triple A Fresno… The shortstop drove in a run Friday against Tacoma and doubled Sunday against the Rainers… Jurica is hitting .258 in 83 games with 14 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 25 RBI… The Grizzlies are 47-57.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): A fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, Marshall has continued his dominant stretch in three outings after the All-Star Break for Triple A Reno… The right-hander earned the win Saturday against Las Vegas when he tossed two scoreless innings with a walk and three strikeouts, while he also pitched a perfect frame at the 51s on Tuesday… In 38 games out of the bullpen, Marshall is 3-5 with a 4.10 ERA with 24 walks and 44 strikeouts… The Aces are 42-62.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): A seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, Tenbrink has a hit in all four games after the All-Star break for Triple A Tacoma… He had one hit in each game, including a double Saturday at Fresno, a solo homer Sunday against the Grizzlies and a two-run shot Tuesday against Tucson… In 90 games, Tenbrink is hitting .241 with 15 doubles, four triples, nine homers and 42 RBI… The Rainers are a game back in the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League at 57-47.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): Bloxom, a 2009 draft pick by Washington, had seven hits over his last eight games for Double A Harrisburg… The first baseman had a two-hit game last Tuesday against New Britain, while he hit a homer and drove in five runs Thursday against Akron… Bloxom is hitting .235 in 95 games with 17 doubles, one triple, six homers and 57 RBI… The Senators pace the Western Division of the Eastern League by two games at 56-48.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): A 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, Hunter turned in two scoreless relief efforts last week for Double A Jackson… The left-hander allowed three hits and struck out a batter in 1.1 innings Saturday against Mississippi, while he went 1.2 innings at Chattanooga on Tuesday… In 25 games, including two starts, Hunter is 1-0 with a 1.14 ERA, walking eight and striking out 26 in 39.1 innings… Jackson is 13-15 during the second half… Prior to his time in Jackson, Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert earlier this season.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): Morris, a 2009 draft choice by Washington, made one start last week for Double A Tennessee… The right-hander allowed five runs, only two of which were earned, on 10 hits in four innings of a loss Sunday against Jacksonville… In 22 games, including eight starts, Morris is 3-1 and a 3.61 ERA with 26 walks and 42 strikeouts over 57.1 innings… The Smokies lead the Southern Division of the Southern League with an 18-12 second-half record.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): A seventh-round selection in 2011, Allen suffered losses in two starts last week for High A Bakersfield… The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits in two innings Thursday against Visalia, while he surrendered three runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings Tuesday at Modesto… In 21 starts, Allen is 6-9 with a 4.75 ERA in 110.0 innings with 41 walks and 61 strikeouts… Bakersfield is 10-23 during the second half.

Jake Brown (Low A: Kannapolis/Chicago AL): A 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, Brown had two hits last week for the Kannapolis Intimidators of the Class A South Atlantic League… He went 2-for-3 with a run Wednesday at Delmarva… In 19 games for the Intimidators, Brown is hitting .286 with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI… Kannapolis is 12-20 during the second half… Brown also played in 10 games for the Bristol White Sox, hitting .222 (8-for-36) with a double and four RBI.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): Hinkle, a 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, played in six games last week for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League… The first baseman singled in four games, while he worked three walks Thursday against West Michigan and hit a solo homer Monday against South Bend… In 87 games, Hinkle is hitting .252 with 22 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 43 RBI… Burlington is 12-18 during the second half.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): King, a fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, has nine hits in the last eight games for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League… The third baseman, who has four doubles and three RBI during that stretch, went 2-for-4 at Burlington on Thursday, while he was 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homer Monday at Peoria… King is hitting .261 in 50 games with West Michigan with eight doubles, two triples, seven homers and 27 RBI… The Whitecaps are 15-15 during the second half… King began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): A seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, Martini registered a pair of two-hit games over his last seven contests for the Peoria Chiefs… The outfielder went 2-for-3 Thursday against South Bend and came back with a pair of doubles and two RBI the next day against the Silver Hawks… In 75 games, Martini is hitting .243 with 13 doubles, one triple and 25 RBI… The Chiefs are an even 15-15 during the second half.

Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Class A Short-Season: Vermont/Oakland): A 24th-round selection last year by Oakland, Bahramzadeh made his first appearance of the summer for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League after recovering from an injury… The right-hander tossed a scoreless innings, allowing a walk and striking out two against Auburn on Monday.

Joe Flattery (Class A Short Season: Connecticut/Detroit): Flattery, a free agent signee by Detroit following the 2013 season, has made a couple starts in the last week for the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League last week… The left-hander allowed a run and two hits over four innings against Jamestown and Staten Island on last Wednesday and Tuesday, respectively… In three outings with the Tigers, Flattery holds a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA with two walks and eight strikeouts… Connecticut is 14-21 to begin the season… Flattery pitched three times for the GCL Tigers, tossing four scoreless innings with a walk and seven strikeouts, prior to begin promoted.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): King, a fifth-round selection by the New York Mets in this year’s draft, had hits in six of seven games last week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League… The left fielder, who also had three doubles and two RBI during that stretch, went 3-for-4 against Batavia on Saturday, while he had three two-hit contests… In 30 games, King is hitting .290 with 10 doubles and 10 RBI… The Cyclones are 15-20 to begin the season.

Dan Klein (Class A Short-Season: Vancouver/Toronto): A 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, Klein had two hits last week for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League… The catcher hit a solo homer Wednesday at Everett and singled Saturday against Eugene… In 19 games, Klein is hitting .183 with a double, one triple, two home runs and 11 RBI… The Canadians finished second in their division during the first half with a 22-16 record and won their first game of the second half.
