MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas Pump Jacks
Outfielder Mitch Meyer extended his hitting streak to seven games with hits in four contests last week for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League… The Stilwell, Kan., product went 3-for-5 with two RBI Thursday against the Woodlands and also had two hits, including a double, Sunday at Brazos Valley… In 22 games, Meyer is hitting .419 (36-for-86) with five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 24 RBI… He has also pitched twice, allowing six runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings… East Texas is 8-11 during the second half of the season.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Left-hander Jared Moore pitched once in the last five days for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League… The senior-to-be allowed three runs on three hits in two innings Saturday against Amsterdam… In five outings, including a start, Moore holds a 2-0 record and a 3.38 ERA… Future sophomore Jake Matthys made one start for Glens Falls earlier this summer, allowing an unearned run on one hit in five innings with a walk and seven strikeouts on June 23… The Golden Eagles are 23-16.
Catcher Blair DeBord played in one game for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League over the last five days as he went 1-for-3 and was hit by two pitches Wednesday against Yarmouth-Dennis… In nine games, DeBord is hitting .214 (6-for-28) with a double and two RBI… The Mariners are in second place in the eastern division with an 18-16-1 record.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats – Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig – are playing for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny… Updated statistics for the Brigade were not available, but through July 4, Busch was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings and Witcig was 1-0 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings… Speer was hitting .321 (8-for-28) with a double, one triple and 11 RBI, while DeVinney was hitting .375 (10-for-32) with two doubles and seven RBI… Junction City finished its season with a 21-13 record.
Pitcher Blake McFadden and infielder RJ Santigate have completed their time playing for the Mat-Su Miners… McFadden tossed a third of an inning, allowing a run on two hits, while Santigate was 0-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple and the North Central Kansas Knights saw their season come to an end last Tuesday… In 21 games, Dalrymple hit .300 (18-for-60) with three doubles, four RBI and 12 runs scored… The Knights finished at 12-32.
Ross Kivett, a Cape Cod League All-Star, had a hit in both games over the last five days for the Orleans Firebirds… The second baseman singled against Bourne and Cotuit, driving in a run in the first game, while he went 1-for-2 with a RBI double in the All-Star Game on Saturday… In 26 games, Kivett leads the Firebirds with a .352 average with eight doubles, two homers and 13 RBI… Shane Conlon joined the Firebirds two weeks ago and is hitting .130 (3-for-23) with a RBI in his first six games… Orleans is 18-18 this summer.
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, are playing for the Rossville Rattlers… As of July 26, Bee was hitting .365 (27-for-74) with five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 20 RBI, while Miles was hitting .205 (8-for-39) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI… MaVorhis was 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA in six games with just three walks and 36 strikeouts, while Wilks was 1-2 with two saves and a 2.45 ERA in 25.2 innings… Wilks has also played in 29 games in the field, hitting .213 with four doubles, one triple, one homer and nine RBI.
Topeka Golden Giants
The Topeka Golden Giants completed their season with a 33-16 overall record and finished as the runner-up in the Walter Johnson Baseball League… Infielders Shane Conlon and Jake Wodtke played for the Golden Giants as Conlon went 6-for-15 in four games with three doubles and two RBI, while Wodtke hit .382 (21-for-55) with four doubles, a homer and seven RBI.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): Torres, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New York Mets, was touched for eight runs in just three innings of his start Sunday at Washington… A 15th-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2004, Torres surrendered nine hits and walked one with two strikeouts… In 13 outings, including three starts, Torres is 1-2 with a 3.13 ERA, surrendering 11 earned runs on 34 hits with just five walks and 28 strikeouts in 31.2 innings… The Mets hold a 46-56 record… Torres began 2013 pitching for Triple A Las Vegas, accumulating a 6-3 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts before being called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): A free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, Goedert had one hit and one RBI over the last four games for Triple A Indianapolis… The infielder singled and drew two walks against Syracuse on Friday, while he drove in a run on a sacrifice fly on Sunday against the Chiefs… In 101 games, Goedert is hitting .242 with 23 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 53 RBI… Indianapolis holds a 10-game lead in the International League West Division at 63-47.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): A third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, Jurica hit a RBI single Saturday at Colorado Springs for Triple A Fresno… In 86 games, Jurica is hitting .254 with 14 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 26 RBI… Fresno is 49-60 this season.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): Marshall, a fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, pitched twice in the last five days for Triple A Reno… The right-hander allowed a run on two hits with two walks Thursday at Las Vegas, but rebounded with a scoreless inning to register a save Sunday against Tacoma… In 40 relief appearances, Marshall is 3-5 with a 4.12 ERA and three saves, while he has issued 26 walks and struck out 45 in 43.2 innings… Reno holds a 44-65 record.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): Tenbrink, a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, tallied three two-hit games over the last five contests for Triple A Tacoma… The third baseman/outfielder went 2-for-4 with a solo homer Wednesday against Tucson… He then went 2-for-3 with three walks and two runs Friday at Reno, singled on Saturday and came back with a 2-for-4 outing with a homer and three RBI on Sunday against the Aces… Tenbrink is hitting .252 in 95 games with 15 doubles, four triples, 11 homers and 46 RBI… Tacoma remains a game back in the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League with a 60-49 record.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): A 2009 draft pick by Washington, Bloxom had one hit in a four-game series at Portland for Double A Harrisburg… The first baseman singled Friday and worked a walk on Sunday… In 99 games this season – all coming for Harrisburg – Bloxom is hitting .228 with 17 doubles, one triple, six homers and 55 RBI… The Senators pace the Western Division of the Eastern League by one game at 59-50.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): Hunter, a 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, pitched twice in the last five days for Double A Jackson… The left-hander tossed two-thirds of a scoreless inning Thursday at Chattanooga before allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in an inning Saturday against the Lookouts… In 27 outings, including two starts, Hunter is 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA, walking nine and striking out 29 in 41 innings… The Generals are 15-18 during the second half… Prior to his time in Jackson, Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert earlier this season.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): A 2009 draft choice by Washington, Morris took a no decision in a start Friday for Double A Tennessee at Huntsville… The right-hander allowed six runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts… In 23 games, including nine starts, Morris is 3-1 with a 4.33 ERA while surrendering 28 walks striking out 45 over 60.1 innings… The Smokies are a half game back in the Southern Division of the Southern League with a 21-14 second-half record.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): Allen, a seventh-round selection in 2011, was solid in a starting effort Sunday night for High A Bakersfield… The right-hander tossed five innings, allowing just one run and working around seven hits with two walks and a season-high seven strikeouts against Lake Elsinore… In 22 starts, Allen is 7-9 with a 4.62 ERA in 115.0 innings with 43 walks and 68 strikeouts… Bakersfield is 14-24 during the second half.

Jake Brown (Low A: Kannapolis/Chicago AL): Brown, a 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, went 0-for-3 in his lone appearance over the last five days for the Kannapolis Intimidators of the Class A South Atlantic League… Brown is hitting .274 in 20 games for the Intimidators with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI… Kannapolis is 13-23 during the second half… Brown also played in 10 games for the Bristol White Sox, hitting .222 (8-for-36) with a double and four RBI.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): A 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, Hinkle registered three multi-hit games over the last five days for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League… The first baseman homered against Quad Cities on both Wednesday and Thursday, driving in three and two runs, respectively… He also had a two-hit game and one RBI Sunday at Wisconsin… Hinkle is hitting .256 in 92 games with 22 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 49 RBI… Burlington is 13-22 during the second half.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): A fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, King has continued his hot hitting for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League by recording five knocks in his last four games… The third baseman singled Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday – driving in a run in the latter game – while he had two hits, including a double, Sunday at South Bend… In 54 games with the Whitecaps, King is hitting .266 with nine doubles, two triples, seven homers and 28 RBI… The Whitecaps are 17-17 during the second half… King began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Dan Klein (Low A: Lansing/Toronto): Klein, a 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, was promoted to Low A Lansing of the Midwest League last week… In his first two games, the catcher went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI against Dayton on Friday, while he was 1-for-4 Sunday against Bowling Green… The Lugnuts are 12-23 during the second half… Klein had played in 19 games for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League, hitting .183 with a double, a triple, two homers and 11 RBI.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): Martini, a seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, played in three games over the last five days for the Peoria Chiefs… The outfielder worked two walks Wednesday at Cedar Rapids before singling against Kane County on both Saturday and Sunday… Martini is hitting .243 in 78 games with 13 doubles, one triple and 25 RBI… Peoria holds an 18-17 second-half record.

Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Class A Short-Season: Vermont/Oakland): Bahramzadeh, a 24th-round selection last year by Oakland, was solid in his only appearance over the last five days for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League… The right-hander pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only two hits with a strikeout Saturday against Tri-City as he carded his first professional save… In two outings, Bahramzadeh has not allowed an earned run in four innings with a walk and three strikeouts.

Joe Flattery (Class A Short Season: Connecticut/Detroit): A free agent signee by Detroit following the 2013 season, Flattery has not pitched for the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League in the last five days… The left-hander holds a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA with two walks and eight strikeouts in three outings, including two starts, with the Tigers… Connecticut is 17-23 this season… Flattery pitched three times for the GCL Tigers, tossing four scoreless innings with a walk and seven strikeouts, prior to begin promoted.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): A fifth-round selection by the New York Mets in this year’s draft, King had consecutive two-hit games to close out his week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League… The left fielder went 2-for-4 Saturday at Staten Island and 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI Sunday at Hudson Valley… King is hitting .298 in 34 games with 11 doubles and 11 RBI… The Cyclones are 19-20 this season.
