MANHATTAN, Kan. - Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas Pump Jacks
Mitch Meyer has continued his outstanding summer playing for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League by recording eight hits in five games last week... The outfielder began his week by going 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBI against Brazos Valley on Tuesday... He also had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI Friday against the Woodlands, while he tripled and drove in two against McKinney on Saturday... In 27 games, Meyer is hitting .415 with six doubles, three triples, four home runs and 33 RBI... He has also pitched twice, allowing six runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings... East Texas is 13-12 during the second half of the season.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Left-hander Jared Moore did not allow an earned run in two appearances last week for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League... The senior-to-be tossed two scoreless frames and work around two walks with three strikeouts Tuesday against Cooperstown... He also pitched Wednesday against Albany, allowing an unearned run with a walks and two strikeouts in two more innings... In seven outings, including a start, Moore holds a 2-0 record and a 2.45 ERA... Future sophomore Jake Matthys made one start for Glens Falls earlier this summer, allowing an unearned run on one hit in five innings with a walk and seven strikeouts on June 23... The Golden Eagles are 23-16.
Catcher Blair DeBord registered five hits in six games last week for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League... He started his week on fire Tuesday against Hyannis as he went 4-for-5 with a RBI... He also drove in a run Thursday at Chatham and went 1-for-4 with two RBI Saturday at Brewster... In 15 games, DeBord is hitting .239 (11-for-46) with a double and six RBI... The Mariners finished the regular season at 23-19-2 and begins playoff action Tuesday against Orleans.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats - Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig - played for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny... Updated statistics for the Brigade were not available, but through July 4, Busch was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings and Witcig was 1-0 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings... Speer was hitting .321 (8-for-28) with a double, one triple and 11 RBI, while DeVinney was hitting .375 (10-for-32) with two doubles and seven RBI... Junction City finished its season with a 21-13 record.
Pitcher Blake McFadden and infielder RJ Santigate have completed their time playing for the Mat-Su Miners... McFadden tossed a third of an inning, allowing a run on two hits, while Santigate was 0-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
NBC World Series
Three sophomores-to-be, catcher Alex Bee along with pitchers Landon Busch and Jordan Witcig, are playing with various teams in the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series... Bee singled and walked in the first game for the Hays Larks, who won their first game Saturday against the Casa Grande Cotton Kings before falling to the Hutchinson Monarchs on Sunday... Witcig is pitching for the Larks but has not made an appearance... Busch earned a win for the El Dorado Broncos against the Tulsa Braves on Monday when he worked five innings of a start and allowed just two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple and the North Central Kansas Knights saw finished its season with a 12-32 record... In 21 games, Dalrymple hit .300 (18-for-60) with three doubles, four RBI and 12 runs.
A Cape Cod League All-Star, Kivett registered 10 hits over eight games last week for the Orleans Firebirds... The Broadview Heights, Ohio, product tallied three multi-hit games, including a 2-for-5 effort with a home run and three RBI Wednesday at Brewster... He also doubled on both Friday and Sunday... In 34 games, Kivett leads the Firebirds and ranks fourth in the CCBL with a .336 average to go along with 10 doubles, three homers and 13 RBI... Shane Conlon joined the Firebirds midway through the season... In four games last week, the first baseman tallied four hits, including a two-hit performance Tuesday at Cotuit... In 10 games, Conlon is hitting .200 (7-for-35) with a RBI... Orleans went 24-19-1 during the regular season and begins the playoffs Tuesday against Harwich.
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, played for the Rossville Rattlers... As of July 26, Bee was hitting .365 (27-for-74) with five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 20 RBI, while Miles was hitting .205 (8-for-39) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI... MaVorhis was 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA in six games with just three walks and 36 strikeouts, while Wilks was 1-2 with two saves and a 2.45 ERA in 25.2 innings... Wilks has also played in 29 games in the field, hitting .213 with four doubles, one triple, one homer and nine RBI.
Topeka Golden Giants
The Topeka Golden Giants completed their season with a 33-16 overall record and finished as the runner-up in the Walter Johnson Baseball League... Infielders Shane Conlon and Jake Wodtke played for the Golden Giants as Conlon went 6-for-15 in four games with three doubles and two RBI, while Wodtke hit .382 (21-for-55) with four doubles, a homer and seven RBI.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): A right-handed starting pitcher for the New York Mets, Torres registered three scoreless outings out of the bullpen last week... A 15th-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2004, Torres, who had started the three previous games, tossed a scoreless inning at Miami on Wednesday before pitching two innings against Kansas City to pick up an extra-inning win on Friday... He came back with two-thirds of an inning Sunday against the Royals... In 16 appearances, including three starts, Torres is 2-2 with a 2.80 ERA, surrendering 11 earned runs on 36 hits with just five walks and 29 strikeouts in 35.1 innings... The Mets are 49-60... Torres began 2013 pitching for Triple A Las Vegas, accumulating a 6-3 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts before being called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): Goedert, a free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, was hitless in eight at-bats over three games last week for Triple A Indianapolis... The infielder is hitting .236 in 104 games with 23 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 53 RBI... Indianapolis holds an eight-game lead in the International League West Division with a 66-51 record.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): Jurica, a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, had hits in all three games last week for Triple A Fresno... The shortstop drove in a run and walked once against Round Rock on Wednesday and singled on both Friday and Saturday... Jurica is hitting .258 in 89 games with 14 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 27 RBI... Fresno holds a 55-60 record.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): A fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, Marshall registered three appearance out of the bullpen last week for Triple A Reno... The right-hander tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout Friday against Tacoma but suffered the loss Wednesday at Oklahoma City after allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning... However, Marshall was able to bounce back with a scoreless frame at New Orleans on Saturday... In 43 relief appearances, Marshall is 3-6 with a 4.08 ERA and three saves, while he has issued 26 walks and struck out 48 in 46.1 innings... Reno is 46-70 this year.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): A seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, Tenbrink had three hits in three games last week for Triple A Tacoma... The third baseman/outfielder was 2-for-4 with a double Friday against Omaha and went 1-for-3 Sunday against Iowa... In 98 games, Tenbrink is hitting .253 with 16 doubles, four triples, 11 homers and 46 RBI... The Rainers are in second place in the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League at 61-55.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): Bloxom, a 2009 draft pick by Washington, registered three multi-hit games in six contests last week for Double A Harrisburg... The first baseman was 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run Tuesday at Trenton, went 2-for-4 with two RBI Thursday against the Thunder and also registered a two-hit game Saturday at Binghamton... Bloxom is hitting .236 in 105 games with Harrisburg with 18 doubles, one triple, seven homers and 58 RBI... The Senators narrowly lead the Western Division of the Eastern League by a half game at 61-54.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): A 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, Hunter recorded a scoreless outing in his only appearance last week for Double A Jackson... The left-hander worked 1.2 innings, stepping around two hits and a walk with two strikeouts... In 28 outings with Jackson, including two starts, Hunter is 1-0 with a 1.27 ERA, walking 10 and striking out 31 in 42.2 innings... The Generals are 19-21 during the second half... Prior to his time in Jackson, Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert earlier this season.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): Morris, a 2009 draft choice by Washington, suffered the loss in his only start last week for Double A Tennessee... The right-hander was touched for seven runs on six hits with two walks in just 1.1 innings... In 24 games, including 10 starts, Morris is 3-2 with a 5.25 ERA while surrendering 30 walks striking out 45 over 61.2 innings... The Smokies lead the Southern Division of the Southern League with a 24-18 second-half record.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): A seventh-round selection by the Reds in 2011, Allen earned the win in his lone start last week for High A Bakersfield... The right-hander, who earned his second-straight victory, tossed five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits with no walks and a strikeout against San Jose on Saturday... In 23 starts, Allen is 8-9 with a 4.73 ERA in 120.0 innings with 43 walks and 69 strikeouts... Bakersfield is 16-28 during the second half.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): Hinkle, a 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, had six hits over seven games last week for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League... The first baseman had a pair of two-hit games with a double on Monday and Tuesday, driving in two and three runs, respectively... He also had a pinch-hit RBI single Thursday, while he hit a solo homer Sunday... In 99 games, Hinkle is hitting .256 with 24 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 56 RBI... Burlington is 17-25 during the second half.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): King, a fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, continued his hot streak for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League last week by collecting eight hits over six games... The third baseman singled on both Tuesday and Wednesday before a two-hit effort on Thursday and a 4-for-5 performance Saturday against Dayton... King raised his average to .271 in 60 games with the Whitecaps with nine doubles, two triples, seven homers and 30 RBI... West Michigan is 21-19 during the second half... King began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Dan Klein (Low A: Lansing/Toronto): A 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, Klein has played in six games for Low A Lansing of the Midwest League since being promoted, including four over the last week... After being used as a defensive replacement on Monday, Klein singled Thursday before recording doubles at Fort Wayne on Saturday and Sunday, including a two-RBI effort in the first game... In six games with the Lugnuts, Klein is hitting .316 (6-for-19) with three doubles, a homer and four RBI... Lansing is 17-26 during the second half... Klein had played in 19 games for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League, hitting .183 with a double, a triple, two homers and 11 RBI.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): A seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, Martini tallied seven hits in eight games last week for the Peoria Chiefs... The outfielder recorded a pair of two-hit games against Quad Cities in a doubleheader on Thursday, including the second game in which he doubled and drove in a run... In 85 games, Martini is hitting .246 with 14 doubles, one triple and 26 RBI... Peoria is an even 21-21 during the second half.

Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Class A Short-Season: Vermont/Oakland): A 24th-round selection last year by Oakland, Bahramzadeh pitched twice last week for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League... The right-hander suffered a loss after surrendering two runs on three hits in an inning of work Tuesday against Hudson Valley... He also allowed a run on a hit and a walk Sunday at State College... In four appearances this season, Bahramzadeh is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA... Vermont is 23-25 this season.

Joe Flattery (Class A Short Season: Connecticut/Detroit): Flattery, a free agent signee by Detroit following the 2013 season, has not pitched since July 23 and currently hits on the disabled list for the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League... The left-hander holds a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA with two walks and eight strikeouts in three outings, including two starts, with the Tigers... Connecticut is 20-27 this season... Flattery pitched three times for the GCL Tigers, tossing four scoreless innings with a walk and seven strikeouts, prior to begin promoted.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): King, a fifth-round selection by the New York Mets in this year's draft, played in seven games last week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League... The left fielder singled on Monday and Tuesday before doubling on Wednesday and Friday, including a four-RBI performance Friday at Jamestown... In 41 games, King is hitting .265 with 13 doubles and 16 RBI... The Cyclones hold an even 23-23 record.

Jake Brown (Rookie: Bristol/Chicago AL): A 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, Brown was sent back to the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie Appalachian League... He had two doubles and a RBI over his four games last week with Bristol... In 14 games with the White Sox, Brown is hitting .204 (10-for-49) with three doubles and five RBI... Bristol is 13-31 this season... In 21 games with the Kannapolis Intimidators, Brown is hitting .276 with four doubles, a triple and 12 RBI.
