K-State Pros Kyle Hunter (Low A: Clinton/Seattle): A 31st-round draft pick of Seattle last season, Hunter pitched three times and picked up a win during the final week of the regular season for the Clinton LumberKings of the Low A Midwest League… The left-hander worked around three hits to toss 1.2 scoreless innings last Tuesday against Quad Cities before earning the win on Thursday with two shutout innings against Burlington… Hunter finished the week with another two shutout frames Sunday at Cedar Rapids… In 39 relief appearances, Hunter holds a 4-5 record and a 2.98 ERA, allowing 28 earned runs in 84.2 innings with only 11 walks and 71 strikeouts… Clinton clinched a playoff spot by winning the Midwest League Western Division Second-Half title with a 48-22 record, 10 games ahead of the team in second place… The LumberKings begin playoff action on Wednesday with a three-game series against Beloit. Carter Jurica (High A: San Jose/San Francisco): Jurica, a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, came away with a hit in six of the final seven regular-season games last week for the San Jose Giants of the High A California League… The shortstop tallied two hits last Monday at Rancho Cucamonga, doubled Wednesday at Lake Elsinore and collected a pair of two-hit games against Modesto on both Saturday and Monday, including a homer in the final game of the regular season… Jurica finished the regular season hitting .300 with 19 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 56 RBI… The Giants ran away with the California League North Division Wild Card with a 75-65 regular-season record, 11 games better than Visalia… San Jose begins the playoffs on Wednesday with a three-game series against Modesto. Dan Klein (Class A Short-Season: Vancouver/Toronto): Klein, a 28th-round pick by Toronto this year, played in one game during the final week of the regular season for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League, going 0-for-4… In 37 regular-season games, Klein hit .207 with five doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI… The Canadians earned a playoff spot by winning the Northwest League West Division Second-Half title with a 24-15 record and took a 1-0 lead in their series against Everett with a win on Monday, a game in which Klein was a defensive replacement. Nate Tenbrink (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): A seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, Tenbrink played in five games during the final week of the regular season for the Jackson Generals of the Double A Southern League… The third baseman’s best game was a 2-for-5 outing with a double and a solo home run on Sunday against Jacksonville… In 46 regular-season games at the Double A level, Tenbrink hit .283 with nine doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 23 RBI… He started his season late due to off-season surgery and played in one game for the AZL Mariners on a rehab assignment, going 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBI… The Generals are in the Southern League playoffs after winning the north division first-half title, while they finished the year with a Southern League-best 79-61 overall record… Jackson will begin playoff action on Thursday with a five-game series against Chattanooga. Carlos Torres (MLB: Colorado): Torres pitched twice last week for the Colorado Rockies… The right-hander allowed two runs in two innings last Tuesday against the Dodgers, but he bounced back with a scoreless frame that included a pair of strikeouts on Saturday against San Diego… A 15th-round pick of the White Sox in 2004, Torres holds a 3-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 22 outings for the Rockies, allowing 18 earned runs on 29 hits with 19 walks and 28 strikeouts in 39.0 innings… Colorado is 55-78 this season… Torres has pitched in 14 games for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Triple A) this season with 13 starts, holding a 5-4 record and a 3.98 ERA. Completed K-State Pros Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Rookie Arizona League: AZL Athletics/Oakland): A 24th-round selection this year by Oakland, Bahramzadeh pitched last Monday for the AZL Athletics of the Rookie Arizona League… The right-hander suffered the loss as he allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with a walk and six strikeouts over three innings… Despite the loss, Bahramzadeh helped the AZL Athletics win the Arizona League East Division Championship and a spot in the league championship, which they lost to the AZL Rangers… A product of Tucson, Ariz., Bahramzadeh finished his first professional season 1-2 with a 7.30 ERA in 13 games, including 10 starts, while he issued just seven walks and struck out 48 batters in 37 innings… His 48 fanned batters were 15th overall in the AZL and second among pitchers that threw fewer than 40 innings. Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): Bloxom, a 2009 draft pick by Washington, had hits in seven of his final nine games of the season last week for the Harrisburg Senators of the Double A Eastern League… The third baseman recorded a pair of hits last Tuesday at Richmond before a solo homer on Thursday, while he had a pair of hits Saturday and another solo homer Monday against Bowie… Bloxom hit .251 in 68 games at the Double A level with 11 doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 24 RBI… He was hitting .259 with 13 doubles, 12 homers and 34 RBI for High A Potomac before being promoted… The Senators finished the season with a 64-78 record. Jake Brown (Rookie: Bristol/Chicago AL): A 30th-round selection in this year’s draft by the Chicago White Sox, Brown finished his season with a pair of hits, including a double and a RBI last Tuesday against Burlington for the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie Appalachian League… The shortstop concluded his first professional season hitting .247 in 50 games with seven doubles, one triple and 12 RBI… Bristol finished the year with a 19-46 mark. Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): King, a fourth-round pick by Detroit last season, recorded a hit in seven of his final eight games of the season last week for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Low A Midwest League… He began his week with three hits, including a pair of homers and three RBI last Monday at Dayton, while he doubled Thursday at Fort Wayne before a two-hit game Saturday against Dayton and a RBI in the final two games of the season… King finished the year with a .253 batting average with 25 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 37 RBI… The Whitecaps finished the season at 72-68. Nick Martini (Low A: Quad Cities/St. Louis): A seventh-round selection of St. Louis last year, Martini finished his season with nine hits last week for the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Low A Midwest League… The outfielder doubled and drove in two runs last Monday at Clinton before tallying two hits, including one double, on both Saturday and Monday at Beloit to wrap up the 2012 campaign… Martini finished the year with a .266 batting average in 130 games with 24 doubles, four triples, two home runs and 52 RBI… He ranked sixth in the Midwest League in walks (64) and seventh in runs scored (82)… Quad Cities finished the year 68-71. A.J. Morris (High A: Daytona/Chicago NL): Morris, a 2009 draft choice by Washington, earned a pair of saves during the final week of the season for the Daytona Cubs of the High A Florida State League… The right-hander worked around a hit in one inning on Thursday to help the Cubs defeat Clearwater, while he tossed two no-hit innings with two strikeouts in his final outing of the year on Saturday against Brevard County… In 39 games during the 2012 season – all out of the bullpen – Morris went 5-2 with a 2.24 ERA and seven saves… He allowed 13 earned runs on 36 hits in 52.1 innings to go along with 15 walks and 42 strikeouts… Daytona finished the year with a 59-74 mark. |
