MANHATTAN, Kan. - K-State infielder Ross Kivett was named a Preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), earning a spot on the organization's First Team.
Kivett, the 2013 Big 12 Player of the Year, is coming off a season in which he earned three All-American designations and helped K-State earn its first conference title in 80 years. The second baseman batted .360 with 22 extra-base hits and 26 stolen bases as well as led the Big 12 in hits (94) and runs (57). For his efforts, Kivett was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Second Team, Baseball America All-America Third Team and Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team.
In 24 Big 12 games last season, Kivett batted .376 with seven extra-base hits, 10 RBI and 10 stolen bases, helping him also garner a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team.
After earning the Manhattan Regional MVP award and helping K-State reach its first Super Regional, Kivett was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 10th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft, but the native of Broadview Heights, Ohio did not sign and chose to return to K-State for his senior season.
Kivett was selected to the Cape Cod Baseball League Postseason All-Star Team this past summer after playing for the Orleans Firebirds and finishing third in the league in batting average, sixth in hits and seventh in doubles. He was tabbed to the Perfect Game 2013 Summer League All-America Third Team in August.
The First Team is chosen by consultation with individual schools' media relations offices and the NCBWA All-America committee and features players from 17 conferences and 35 schools nationwide.
The Wildcats start their 2014 campaign on Friday, February 14 at Cal Poly, beginning an eight-game road trip across California. The first of 28 scheduled games at Tointon Family Stadium will be on Friday, February 28 against Milwaukee. Season tickets, starting as low as $2 per game, are available now by calling 1-800-221-CATS, going to www.kstatesports.com/tickets or visiting the K-State Athletics Ticket Office located in Bramlage Coliseum.
