MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber and associate head coach Chris Lowery, along with the school’s all-time winningest coach Jack Hartman, were recently elected as three of four coaches named to the Southern Illinois All-Century Men’s Basketball Team sponsored by the SIU Credit Union.

The trio was elected to the All-Century Team by online fan voting at SIUSalukis.com, which occurred throughout the month of November and the first week of December to help select a team of 25 players and four coaches spanning the 100 years of Saluki basketball (1914-2013). Team members will be recognized a dinner on Friday night and will be introduced during halftime of SIU’s game with Missouri State on Saturday.

Hartman posted a 142-64 (.689) record in eight seasons from 1963-70 at Southern Illinois, guiding the Salukis to four small-college NCAA Tournaments, two NITs and the 1967 NIT Championship. He left SIU in 1970 to take the head coaching position at K-State, where he led the Wildcats to a school-record 295-169 record for 16 seasons, which included three Big Eight titles, two Big Eight Tournament championships and nine postseason appearances.

Weber coached five seasons at SIU, guiding the school to a 103-54 (.656) record with two Missouri Valley Conference Championships and two trips to the NCAA Tournament from 1999 to 2003. His 2001-02 squad posted 28 wins en route to trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Weber was selected as the 2003 MVC Coach of the Year

Lowery led his alma mater for eight seasons from 2005 to 2012, compiling a 145-116 (.556) overall record to go with two Missouri Valley Conference regular season titles, one MVC Tournament title and three trips to the NCAA Tournament. His teams averaged 18.1 wins over his tenure, including three 20-win campaigns, and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2007. He was twice named the league’s Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2007.

The three men combined to coach 10 of the 25 players selected to the SIU All-Century Team with Hartman mentoring Walt Frazier (1965, 1967) and Dick Garrett (1967-69), Weber coaching Darren Brooks (2001-05), Jermaine Dearman (2000-03), Kent Williams (2000-03) and Lowery mentoring Randal Falker (2005-06), Bryan Mullins (2006-09), Matt Shaw (2005-08) and Jamaal Tatum (2004-07).

Due to the Wildcats’ game with No. 15/18 Texas on Saturday, Weber and Lowery will not be in attendance at this weekend’s festivities.
