GO WILDCATS

Sept. 4, 2010

Head Coach Rick Neuheisel

On the end result of the game…

“We’d like to extend our congratulations to Coach Snyder and his team. They really played well especially in that second half. We had a hard time stopping them. We’re going to have to look at the film and see if we can do a better job of tackling. We were not as good as we needed to be against a fine running team like they have, but again congratulations to them.”

On the impact of Daniel Thomas

“He’s a very accomplished back. They use him in a lot of different ways. He’s very powerful from the waist down and he was too much for us today. We could not get him down.”

On the impact of William Powell…

“They had us on the ropes and it was a great one-two punch. I looked up at the scoreboard walking off the field and I think that they had over 300 yards rushing. That’s not UCLA football. That’s not how we play and it can’t be how we play if we expect to have any kind of success this year.

Sophomore Quarterback Kevin Prince

On the positives of today’s game…

“Once we started running the ball it started opened things up a little. We started some good things. We just have to go back and look and the tape and figure out how we can attack Stanford and beat them with confidence.”

On the trouble in the passing-game …

“It happens. I was not putting the ball on the money necessarily but it goes both ways. In the passing game, everybody has got to be on the same page. The linemen have to be blocking, which they did a great job of, receivers have to catch the ball and I have to put the ball on the money. Overall, we just did not have enough consistency. .”

On controlling their own destiny…

“It was extremely disappointing. It was a little more so that we did not take advantage of earlier opportunities. Obviously, we came back and scored a touchdown and almost got a two-point conversion. But, you do not want to put yourself in those situations. But it would have been great to win like that but it would have been better to put the game away early and execute.”

Junior Defensive Back Rahim Moore

On today’s game and what UCLA can take away from this game…

“We all made of mistakes but we did some good things and I like that. There was no quit in us. Kansas State did a good job. I told Coach Snyder that they executed well. We missed some tackles and we did some other little things wrong. They had a good scheme against us, they had some plays where they caught us in bad defensive position and some plays we caught them where we had a good defense and we stopped them. But that is just a part of football. You live and you learn from it and all we need to be able to do is keep moving. Today was just a chance to get better. ”

Sophomore Defensive Tackle Donovan Carter

On how the defense played today…

“We just came out and played hard today and that is what we did right. The effort was there. We just did not finish tackling. It is the first game so we are going to watch film and look at our mistakes. .”

On K-State Running Back Daniel Thomas…

“He is really good. He is big and he is physical. You have to wrap up on him, you cannot arm-tackle him because run through them. I was really impressed with him .”

Junior Linebacker Akeem Ayers

On today’s game …

“It felt good to get into full-contact, not just hitting each other. But at the end of the day, it is still a loss. You really cannot appreciate what you did right.”

On K-State’s differences between last year and this year…

“Not really. I thought they did the same things this year as they did last year, we just did a great job on defense last year.”

On the atmosphere of Bill Snyder Family Stadium…

“It was cool. But it did not really affect me. Since I am a defensive player, I do not really pay attention to the crowd.”

On K-State Running Back Daniel Thomas…

“He is a good running back. He did a good job today. But we missed tackles and we had some gap issues. We understand that we could have done better against him.”

Sophomore Running Back Johnathan Franklin

On his performance in today’s game…

“It felt alright. It is about the team, not about me, so I did what I had to do to help the team win. We just fell a little short.”

 On back and forth momentum

“It was a very exciting game. Kansas State is a great team and they came very far from last year. I feel like they are going to have a great season. They just wanted it more in the end, and that’s why they won the game”

On the atmosphere in Bill Snyder Family Stadium…

“It was amazing. This is the type of games we want to play in. We would love if we could play in this type of atmosphere every week. It was great.”
