GO WILDCATS

Sept. 25, 2010

Head Coach K-State Head Coach Bill Snyder

On his team's performance...

"I am pleased with our youngsters, defensively we gave up an awful lot of yardage but we were able to get them stopped when we needed to have them stopped. Offensively, we laid a massive egg during the first half of the ball game and a good portion of the second half, but yet when we had to have it we were able to get it and that speaks favorably for the young people in our program. I sure am proud of the fact that we came back to win the ball game."

On the last drive...

"Obviously, there were some big plays in the drive and the pass to Andre McDonald was a big play to get us a first down and first downs were hard for us to come by. We were not very good on first down and it put us into a lot of long yardage situations. Carson made a couple of throws in there that made a difference in the drive and certainly being able to get us into the plays to put the ball into the end zone."

On UCF containing Daniel Thomas ...

"They played better than we did. They whooped us upfront, they were more aggressive, they ran to the ball better, they just pursued well and played extremely hard. They played better than we did."

On using multiple safeties in the game...

"I think all three of them are playing well and all three of them deserve to be on the field. They will just get involved until we can define two of the guys but I think we probably will be in a rotation."

On Daniel Thomas' performance...

"I think Daniel (Thomas) could have played better than what he did today and I think Daniel missed some reads, maybe was a little hesitant, a little slow but some of that comes because you are looking for daylight and all of a sudden you are in a closet with the lights out and that was evident on some occasions."

Quarterback Carson Coffman

On his thoughts about the game...

"We knew it was not going to be easy because they have a very good defense, but we were not expecting it to be quite like this. My hat goes off to Central Florida, they played really well today to shut down our running game. We have been talking all week about how we want to dominate the fourth quarter because UCF is good in the fourth quarter and I think we did that today."

On the struggle getting started and the fans...

"We were three-and-out a lot through the first three quarters and I think that even got our fans a little out of the game. When I hit Tramaine (Thompson) on that long pass I think the crowd got back into it which was huge for us at the time."

On the 73 yard pass to Tramaine Thompson...

"They had been stuffing us on the run and it was a good play call by the coaches. The play action really helped loosen the coverage. We thought the safeties would bite on the play action which would leave Tramaine (Thompson) open. Fortunately he was, and we made a good play."

Running back Daniel Thomas

On the UCF defense...

"I didn't do anything differently, they just played more defenders in the box then the previous 3 teams. They were just a little faster than those teams, but we adjusted for it in the fourth quarter."

On the upcoming bye week...

"We are going to take our bye week to rest and prepare. We have Nebraska coming up; it's one of our biggest games. Nebraska is one of the best teams in the nation and it's in prime time in front of a national television audience."

Wide Receiver Brodrick Smith

On the level of confidence the team had going into the fourth quarter...

"Just going out there in the fourth quarter and going into the game we knew that UCF had outscored opponents pretty bad in the fourth quarter so we knew we had to go out there and execute to win a game."

On the general mood of the team in the fourth quarter...

"We had a big sense of urgency. We knew we were going to go out there and take the field and lead the team to victory."

On Carson Coffman's poise late in the game...

"I do not know if it was something he did not have in games previously, but I know going into that drive he had a lot of heart and a lot of guys relied on him and he got the job done today."

Wide Receiver Aubrey Quarles

On what the huddle was like before the last touchdown...

"We were trying to keep each other calm because the crowd was going crazy. The coaches were yelling and everyone was just telling each other to calm down. It is just like practice and we could not make it bigger then it was. I was telling Carson (Coffman) in the huddle to take charge. That is something that my family tells me and being a senior, in the huddle, I am trying to help Carson out as much as possible."

On the final scoring drive...

"It was rough out there the whole day. The sense of urgency was a little bit heightened. Fortunately, we were able to get that last drive in the end zone and Carson made a big play. We were lucky enough to get the score and the win."

Defensive End Brandon Harold

On the finish of the game...

"It is always good to get a win in the fourth quarter.  It does not matter when we finish just as long as we get the "W" that is the most important thing to us.  It gives us a little more confidence for the later games.  When we feel like we should win, we can as long as we keep pushing."

On the offense throughout the game ...

"I knew that it was going to click for the offense eventually.  I thought that we needed to hold down our part defensively.  We needed to make sure that their offense did not score, and as long as we did that we got the job done."

On The UCF Quarterback Jeff Godfrey

"He was fast.  I did not get to see him much unless he was bouncing my way.  He was all that we thought he would be, and we did our part to contain him."

Defensive Back David Garrett

On making big plays...

"We work on it in practice and the coaches are always stressing to make three big plays. We are always trying to make those three big plays in the game and I know we did not make three but we made one and it was huge."

On what the focus was coming out of halftime...

"We knew we had to come out and contain the quarterback better. He is a good quarterback that can make big plays but I think we were able to do a little bit better job of containment on him in the second half."

On being able to come back in win a close game says...

"I think it shows that the team is good at staying together and not getting down on anyone. We have got to start better and play a full four quarters like we are supposed to."

Defensive Back Terrance Sweeney

On the ability to make big plays as a defense...

"Coach (Snyder) has good motivational speeches. They are really good at getting us riled up and we know we can make the plays because we do it in practice all the time. We came together as a team and fought for it today in the fourth quarter."

On what they learned from playing against a running quarterback...

"We have to play our keys. That was a big part of the game was, knowing and reading the keys correctly."

On playing in close game ...

"You just have to believe. This is why you go through two-a-days in the summer, so you can finish close games like we have. You really have to believe in what you are doing and the rest plays out."

UCF Head Coach George O'Leary

On containing K-State running back Daniel Thomas...

"I thought defensively we did a very good job on him. He is a very good back. They had a few good pass plays and that sort of put a dent in the armor. Give them the credit. They made the plays and we did not make the plays. They upset the perfect call I had on man coverage on the 3rd and 18 or whatever it was there. The guy missed his coverage so I guess we will just move on. I told the players that a game like this that is no regrets. You go out there and make plays, but we did not make enough plays."

On starting conference play...

"We head into the conference and have a week off. We open at home against UAB. We get into the conference, but it will take a while to get over this loss."

On tough losses to BCS teams...

"Could of. Should of.  Would of. We keep saying those things and we keep having the opportunities to do a lot of those, but we did not get it done."

On not being able to convert in the red zone...

"That is what I am talking about as far as production. When you get down there and have some nice drives to move the ball, but you have to put the ball in the end zone. The worst was missing that field goal in tight and the other one he should have made also. It is a shame to get down there and make mistakes. We are only going to improve as the season goes on."

On thoughts of who was the better team today...

"I do not know. We lost. I think we played opportunity wise if we take care of opportunities and put scores on the board. I give Kansas State credit. They made plays and we did not."

On the defensive performance...

"We did a great job on a great running back. They hit a couple of passes that opened up the flood gate there. The big thing was we had a cover there, but we did not execute."

On second guessing the play calling of the game...

"I think every time you lose, you die a little. I think that is very evident, but the big thing was that this was a tough game and I told the players that we had opportunities and that we have to take advantage of them. I think four or five years ago, we did not have opportunities. We have come a long way, but these are games you have to win, you have to take advantage of them."

Wide Receiver A.J. Guyton

On if the wheel route was designed against Kansas State...

"It has been in the playbook. They were double teaming so we knew the wheel route would be open."

On another close loss to a BCS team ...

"It gets frustrating. We do not play a BCS team again this season. We have come so close since I have been here. We just have to learn how to finish."

On lost scoring opportunities...

"Sometimes we got down the field and did not score at all. Next time, we could only score three. It was frustrating. We just have to get ready for conference play."

Running back Ronnie Weaver

On not being able to finish the game...

"We just need to finish and execute our plays in the game and complete crucial third down conversions. It is also consistency and just finishing."

On improving the team's play...

"We need to be together as a team and making our decisions together. We need to execute our game plan. As long as we stay and execute and finish our plays, then we could have had a different outcome of the game today."

On exploiting the Kansas State defense...

"We did our scouting reports and everything and tried to play our game. We did feel that we did have an advantage with speed so we tried to use that to the best of our abilities."

Cornerback Josh Robinson

On if they were worn down at the end...

"I don't think we were worn down, we just started making stupid mistakes at the end. Things that we went over and mistakes that we shouldn't have made."

On not being able to get off the field after not stopping third down conversions.

"It's real tough. That bothers you and gets under your skin. We've just got to make plays in the future.

On the postgame feeling with the cannons going off...

"It's just an awful feeling that we don't ever like to feel. We can't lose games like this, it's too crucial."

Defensive End Bruce Miller

On the disappointment of the loss...

"That's a disappointing loss when you feel like you have it in your grasp and you can't finish."

On playing against Daniel Thomas...

"I thought we played great against him. When he gets that many carries and we hold him to that many yards, that's a good day for us in the run game but once again the bottom line is that we didn't make plays that we had to in the fourth quarter, so it doesn't really matter what happened before then."

On their confidence after today's game...

"We have a bye week next week so we just got to work hard during practice so we can go into the next game play hard and expect to win."

On not being able to stop some third down conversions in the fourth quarter...

"I mean it's tough but as a defensive unit we need to stop them. If it's third and short or third and long then we have to make a play and stop them and we weren't able to do it in the end.
