Coaching Experience - Joined the K-State coaching staff in January 1999, after a successful stint as head coach at Garden City (Kan.) Community College... In 2000, helped the Wildcats rank fourth nationally in total defense? Also tutored second team freshman All-America linebacker Terry Pierce? In 1999, helped K-State rank second in the nation in total defense and lead the nation in pass efficiency defense... Coached 1999 Butkus Award runner-up and consensus All-American Mark Simoneau... Led Garden City to a 29-7 record from 1996-98 as head coach of the Broncbusters... Garden City was ranked seventh in the nation in 1996 (10-2), fourth in the nation in 1997 (10-2) and seventh in the nation in 1998 (9-3)... In 1997, he led the Busters to the Jayhawk Conference Championship and national championship game appearance in the Red River Bowl... Was the defensive coordinator for the Broncbusters for 10 years before being named head coach in 1996... Garden City played in the Jayhawk Conference Championship game 10 of the 12 years he was there... Began his collegiate coaching career at Albany State University in 1983, where he coached defensive backs... Moved to Iowa State as a graduate assistant in 1984, where he served as special teams coordinator and assistant defensive backs coach until 1986 when he moved to Garden City... Garden City produced a first team defensive All-America selection for 12 straight seasons under Gush, including eventual K-State players Ray Eagle (DT), Jeff Kelly (LB), Frank Murphy (RB) and Cliff Holloman (DE).

Playing Experience - Was a four-year starter at Bucknell.

Recruiting Area - Western Kansas, Kansas City, Mo., and Orlando, Fla.

Bowl Experience - Coach at K-State: 1999 Holiday Bowl, 2001 Cotton Bowl.

Education - Received his bachelor?s degree in economics with a minor in history from Bucknell in 1981 and his master?s degree in higher education from Iowa State in 1986.

Personal - Born Oct. 29, 1958... A native of Elmira, N.Y... He and his wife, Anne, have two children - Stephanie and Jordan... Stephanie attends Kansas State as an undergraduate.
