Nov. 9, 2013

Recap |  Final Stats

Kansas State Head Coach Bill Snyder
On Hubert's 63-yard run on the second play of the game...
"Well, it's a lot better than the alternative.  They blocked well, and went in there to tackle him.  I don't know what else to say about it."

On finishing the game...
"I think all of our players want that.  We stress that to start, finish, play consistently for the entire game."

On the team's play of late...
"I think we've improved a good deal. Not as much as I would have liked. But we are getting better week in and week out. Think we're better this week than we were a week ago. Probably played as well today and were better today. Offense, defense, kicking game. Lot of times you didn't like it, but collectively I thought we played as well as we have many times."

On the running game...
"I think offensive line, blocking, that's what does it all the time. I think they did a nice job staying on blocks, finishing blocks. Our backs, our quarterbacks ran the ball fine. They were somewhere around 40 yards each at halftime."

On the possession time...
"Yes, I don't know what. I haven't looked at it in regard to possession time. But as well as we ran the ball in the first half, we didn't have an abnormal amount of possession times. It was reasonably even, I think, in the first half if I recall correctly."

On Texas Tech...
"You come into halftime with the substantial lead, and completing 66 percent of the passes in the first half, and that's good. But they're averaging just over 6 yards per completion on us, so that's good from your side. That's how it worked out. They've got their receivers, quarterback coach are good guys. It's going to be a very, very fine football team out there. They've got some youth to them.  They're graduating some really talented players, but they've got a lot of good players there."

On winning 175 games at K-State...
"I haven't been very good (laughing).  It's been 25 years to do it.  I haven't been very good at it."

On third-down conversion...
"I think those things were good. That's what we look at it, not how it relates to world history. But what did we do well? What did we get better at? What did we not do as well? What can we improve on? I mean, other than the fact that there is one ballgame that they feel good about.  That's what it's all about."

Offensive Lineman Cody Whitehair
On the offensive line...
"You know, that was one of our struggles in the past couple of weeks is we were trying to get to run the ball, you know, and that was a point we stressed all week was to try to run the ball to get Jake and Dean the time they needed.  I thought overall we played very well."

On the performance of John Hubert...
"You know, that was a great play by Hubert. He read the O line blocks well, and he hit that hole, and that was another thing we stressed was our team hitting the holes better.  And John hit that hole and took it to the house."

On the play of John Hubert of late...
"John, is doing well right now.  He's playing with a lot of confidence.  He's had a couple of hundred game hundred plus games and he's doing really well."

On running the ball today...
"You know, it's greater. The offensive line, that's what we like to do. We like to pound the ball down, the opponents throw it, and I felt like that's what we did today."

On the focus of the team today...
"Texas Tech played really well today.  I got to give it to the guys on the line.  They picked up their slants and blitzes and all of that stuff.

On beating a Top 25 team like Texas Tech...
"That was a big win for us.  We're trying to get to a bowl game too.  That is another thing we talked about.  We're just trying to go 1-0 each week.  We're still trying to find our bowl game."

On the team's play since the loss in the opener...
"Our main thing here is to go 1 0 each and every day in meeting room and in the games.  Ever since we got our focus back from that game, and we just started to improve a little bit each week, and now we're rolling now."

On the play of the offensive line the last few weeks... "One thing that I've noticed about our offensive line is one big thing that we've done is we came together and we've come a lot closer.  Not only on the field, but off the field.  We're doing more activities as a group than we ever have in the past couple of years."

On how the team has responded since the losing streak...
"Yeah, you know, that's a big thing.  You know, when you're losing, you've still got to come together.  I felt like that's what we did.  Our team not only the offensive line, but the team came together as well and said we're going to do this for ourselves, for our teammates, and for our coaches."

Wide receiver Tramaine Thompson
On his touchdown reception...
"It was a check that Jake (Waters) made on the change of plays.  The guys just threw a nice little throw to me.  It was a good play.  I got my hands on it."

On the team's start today...
"We started well again, and we put the ball in the end zone and kept coming out with field goals. That's just been our goal the last few weeks is to get into the end zone and not allow field goals, and we did a really good job of it."

On the team's resiliency...
"We're not a team that's going to get pushed over.  Lot of people, as I said last week turned their back on us.  We had a couple of tough losses at the end of the year.  But to go to another team's house, and play solid and play aggressive, and come out with the W, you know, it's a positive thing for us."

On the offense's performance...
"It just opened up.  It's a testament to these guys up front.  You really didn't have to do much.  We just showed that we're doing good today."

Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury
On Kansas State...
"They did a great job executing, actually. They had a good plan.

On Eric Ward...
"He plays hard each and every day at practice whether the ball's coming to him or not."

On this loss as compared to the others...
"I mean, like I said, this one more than the others, we knew what they were going to do, and they came right at us and we couldn't stop them and we didn't have answers.  We have to evaluate personnel, evaluate scheme, and try to finish off the season on the right foot.  We're playing another great rushing team next week, so we've got to come up with some answers.

On the loss overall...
"Yeah, we got outcoached. We got outplayed. It's up to us what we're going to do for the last two weeks. I was disappointed for the seniors. I let them know I appreciate what they've done, and it's not the way we wanted to send them out in their last game, but there's a lot of football still left to play.

On the quarterbacks...
"No, Davis was playing well. He won a couple big games. Like I said, the whole situation with true freshmen, it's a learning experience to all of them. We had two that can play, so if one's not playing great, we're not afraid to put the other one in. The ball security with Baker, you've got better at it. He hasn't played in a while and you've got to protect the football."

On the false start penalty on 4-and-3...
"We had more penalties than them and more turnovers than them. And in that situations to use a timeout and a false start and have to go kick a field goal, that was a tough spot."

On his coaching...
"Yeah, I feel like I can do a better job. We'll see what we did good, what we did bad, and come back next week and try to have a better plan."

On the defensive coaches...
"Yeah, I think our defensive staff did a good job at halftime figuring out what we needed to do and got them off the field. But at that point, we're in a big hole. And sometime it's too little too late. As a team, we haven't started the last two weeks, and that's on me as a coach. I have to get them ready to play.

On his mood...
"I'm never really happy. As a coach, I always expect more, so that's how we approached it. We knew we were playing talented teams coming up, but we felt like we matched up with everybody in this conference, and we just have to execute. The last three weeks we lost the turnover battle and lost the penalty battle and if you do that in this league you're not going to win a game."

On Kansas State's performance...
"Yeah, they did a great job, outcoached us all the way around. We didn't execute at a high level, and they did. That's what they're known for. Coach Snyder is known as one of the best coaches in the game, and has been for a long time."
