MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State tied for the national lead with three players – Arthur Brown, Tyler Lockett and Nigel Malone – named to the preseason watch list for the Walter Camp Award, which honors the nation’s most outstanding player, the Walter Camp Foundation announced Friday.

Of the 50 players named to the 2012 watch list, K-State tied with Oklahoma and USC for the most candidates. The three Wildcats up for the Walter Camp Award gave K-State a school-record 14 candidates for major college football awards, three more than the previous school record of 11 set by the 1998 squad.

Additionally, Brown, Lockett and Malone are the first three players in school history that have been identified as candidates for the Walter Camp Award, which has been presented since 1967. Lockett (first team) and Malone (second team) are coming off All-America honors from the Walter Camp Foundation in 2011.

With his fifth award candidacy this preseason, Brown broke the school record held by Chris Canty, who was up for four awards during the 1996 season. The Wichita, Kan., product was named to the watch lists for the Bednarik, Butkus and Lombardi Awards, as well as the Nagurski Trophy, over the last two weeks. A 2011 honorable mention All-American by Sports Illustrated, Brown led the Wildcats with 101 tackles en route to Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team honors. He was also named to the 2012 Preseason All-Big 12 team on Wednesday.

Lockett is coming off a stellar freshman season both as a kick returner and a receiver. The Tulsa, Okla., product set the Big 12 and K-State single-season records for kickoff return average at 35.2 yards per return. The lone true freshman named a 2011 First Team Walter Camp All-American, Lockett also received Second Team All-America accolades from Sports Illustrated and Rivals.com. Additionally, he was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, while he was named to the 2012 Preseason All-Big 12 team as a kick returner.

Malone was named to his fourth preseason watch list of 2012 after earning accolades from the Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy and Thorpe Award, while he was also named to the 2012 Preseason All-Big 12 team. The Manteca, Calif., native led the Big 12 and ranked third nationally last season with seven interceptions, a mark that was second in school history and tied for fifth in Big 12 history. In addition to his 2011 Second Team Walter Camp All-America honors, Malone was a Third Team Associated Press All-American and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, while he was a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award.

The Wildcats begin the 2012 campaign against Missouri State on September 1 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, which serves as the fourth annual K-State Family Reunion. A four-pack of tickets for the game, as well as the North Texas contest on September 15, can be purchased by August 1 for $75.

Fans can also purchase tickets for the highly-anticipated matchup against the University of Miami on September 8 for $75 (bench seating) and $85 (premium bench seating).
