GO WILDCATS

July 20, 2012

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State set a school record with 14 candidates this preseason named to various watch lists for major college awards that are affiliated with the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA).

The NCFAA was founded in 1997 as a coalition of the major collegiate football awards to protect, preserve and enhance the integrity, influence and prestige of the game’s predominant awards, and the members have unveiled their preseason watch lists over the last 12 days, finishing Friday with the announcement of three Wildcats on the Walter Camp Award watch list, which tied for the national lead.

K-State will have more opportunities to add to its total as the Manning Award, Johnny Unitas Award and Ted Hendricks Awards – which is not affiliated with the NCFAA – have not announced preseason candidates. Additionally, players may be added to watch lists throughout the season for their performance through the first half of 2012, much like Nigel Malone did last year. In 2011, Malone was not identified as a preseason candidate for the Thorpe Award, but was one of 15 semifinalists at the end of October.

In today’s K-State Sports Extra, we summarize the 14 Wildcat award candidates.
