MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State defensive back Ty Zimmerman and linebacker Tre Walker earned freshman All-America honors as multiple organizations released their postseason teams Tuesday.

Zimmerman was a First Team Freshman All-American selection by Rivals.com, CollegeFootballNews.com and Phil Steele, while Tre Walker was a Fourth Team Freshman All-America pick by Phil Steele.

Both players are the first Wildcats to earn Freshman All-America accolades since Brandon Harold was named a Sporting News Freshman All-American in 2008.

A product of Junction City, Kan., Zimmerman was one of K-State’s most consistent defenders during the 2010 season. His 69 tackles this year are seven shy of entering the top-five list for a freshman in school history, while he ranks second among Big 12 freshmen in tackles entering the bowl season.

Zimmerman also picked off three passes, including two against Texas, while he returned a punt 41 yards at Colorado, the longest by a Wildcat since 2008.

A Second Team All-Big 12 honoree by the league’s coaches and an honorable mention pick as the conference’s freshman defensive player of the year, Zimmerman was the first true freshman in school history to earn all-conference honors from the league’s coaches.

Walker, an Olathe, Kan., native, finished the season with 47 stops, including 38 over the final four games, which were the most by a Wildcat freshman in any four-game stretch since 1996. He carded a career-high 12 tackles and picked off his first career pass at Missouri, while he also had an 11-tackle performance against Texas and a nine-stop effort at Colorado.

Kansas State (7-5) will face Syracuse (7-5) on December 30 in the inaugural New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. The game, which kicks at 2:30 p.m. CT, will be televised nationally on ESPN.
