SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Kansas State men’s golf team sits in sixth place after firing a 17-over 585 in the first two rounds of the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational at the par-71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club on Monday.

“I thought we looked pretty good for this early in the year,” said head coach Tim Norris. “We had a couple of big numbers on a couple of holes that took us back a little bit, but overall I thought we looked pretty sharp. The conditions got a little windy as the day went on, but I was really pleased with what I saw for our first event.”

Leading the Wildcats was senior co-captain Curtis Yonke who carded a 2-over par 144 to finish the first day of action in a tie for ninth place. Yonke fired a first-round 1-under 70, marking the fifth time this season that he has tallied a below-par score in a single round.

Senior Ben Juffer and junior Daniel Wood currently sit in a tie for 34th place after the duo recorded a 6-over 148.

Rounding out the scoring lineup for K-State were freshman Matt Green and sophomore Kyle Weldon. Green notched a 6-over 148, while Weldon recorded a 10-over 151. After two rounds of play, the pair is currently tied for 34th and 47th, respectively.

North Texas’ Rodolfo Cazaubon and UTSA’s Ryan Werre sit tied atop the leaderboard after the duo fired a 3-under 138 on Monday. Heading into Tuesday’s final round, North Texas (571) leads Oklahoma (574) by three strokes in the team standings.
