GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Kansas State men's golf team fired a 12-under 276 Friday to finish the second round of the 2014 Desert Shootout in sixth place at 12-under par 564. Four members of the Wildcat scoring lineup registered below-par rounds to bump K-State up the leaderboard three spots from Thursday's first-round finish.

"Today was probably our best day of the spring," said head coach Tim Norris. "With four scores under par, it was nice to play a good team round. I have seen some good saves around the greens and that just comes from some good practice time in the last week and that is really paying off."

Seth Smith and Kyle Weldon are currently tied for ninth place as the duo continued to pace the Wildcat scoring lineup. Smith carded a second-round 3-under 69 to finish Friday's play at 5-under 139. Weldon fired the lowest K-State score of the day as he turned in a 5-under 67 and will enter Saturday's final round at 5-under 139.

After notching a 1-over 73 on Thursday, Daniel Wood bounced back with a 3-under 69 on Friday to end the day tied for 24th place. Wood will head into the final round with an overall score of 2-under 142.

Connor Knabe was the fourth member of the Wildcat scoring lineup under par as he recorded a 1-under 71 to finish Friday's action in a tie for 37th place at even-par 144. Alex Carney will look to get back on track after shooting a 7-over 79 Friday.

Playing as individuals, David Klaudt tallied a 2-under 70 on Friday to finish the day tied for 34th with a two-round count of 1-under 143, while Tyler Norris will enter Saturday at 9-over 153.

Cal State Fullerton heads into Saturday's final round atop the team leaderboard at 21-under 555. Grand Canyon's Mark Geddes is currently in sole possession of first place at 13-under 131, one stroke ahead of Nathan Hughes of UMKC.

Saturday's final round will get underway with a 7:30 a.m. (MT), shotgun start. Updates from the 2014 Desert Shootout will be available at kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available following Saturday's action.
