TRINITY, Texas - Kansas State senior Daniel Wood closed out his Wildcat career by tying for seventh place in the 2014 Big 12 Championship at the par-72, 5,021-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club on Sunday. As a team, K-State finished in ninth place at 79-over par 1,221.

"Over the last two rounds, Daniel just played some great golf," said head coach Tim Norris, whose 17-year tenure as the Wildcats' leader ended after Sunday's final round as he announced that the 2013-14 season would be his last. "He has just been a pleasure to watch this weekend and this was just a great way for him to finish out his career at K-State. I could not be happier for the young man because he has worked so hard.

"As a team, we just dug ourselves a pretty deep hole on that first day and we had some mixed results after that. We made some bad decisions on top of some bad shots which led to a double- or triple-bogey on a course of this caliber. Overall, I wish we would have came here and played some of our better golf to see how we stacked up but we just got off to a rugged start."

Wood entered Sunday's play tied for 19th but was able to move up the leaderboard 12 spots thanks to a final-round 69. The Leander, Texas, native ended the event at 3-over 291 and earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 10. Wood's finish was the best result by a Wildcat golfer since Joe Ida also tied for seventh place in the 2010 Big 12 Championship.

Playing in his first Big 12 Championship, freshman Seth Smith finished in 36th place after turning in a 10-over 307. Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Wildcats were Kyle Weldon, David Klaudt and Alex Carney as the trio finished in 42nd, 44th and 45th places, respectively.

Texas finished at 6-over par 1,158 to earn its second consecutive Big 12 team title, while TCU's Julien Brun finished atop the individual leaderboard at 11-under 277.
